I was watching the Bengals last night and was amazed at the quality of players they had in their 2nd & 3rd stringers. For example, their 3rd,4th and 5th WRs are Chris Henry, Tab Perry and Kelly Washington. Either one of those guys would probably our # 2 WR and on talent alone Chris Henry would be our clear cut # 1. What have we been doing or not doing in the past off-seasons?

Bradway and Herm ran this franchise in to the ground. Between Bradway's bad drafts and F/A signings to Herm's coaching it couldn't be much worse. Tannenbaum and Mangini have their work cut out for them. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will tyhis football team. Between RB and a decent N/T we will struggle in 06' and possibly midway in to 07'.

    1) Jets - Letting people heal.
    2) Watching the Bengals have a very good season last year including a playoff appearance. If Palmer had not gone down with that horrible knee injury, the Bengals would have gone much deeper in the playoffs.
    3) The bengals probably had real training camps vs. Shangorilla with Herm.
4)They drafted and traded wisely vs. us making horrible contract deals

There is clearly more, but there is a good reason why we are where we are.

    Well, how about this?

The Jets have spent most of the past few years getting to the playoffs. Win or lose, they were there. The Bengals on the other hand, until last year, were losing more often than winning. That helps a team get some pretty damn good draft picks.

Don't worry, a few more seasons like last year, and we will have a great team!

    two words:Terry Boobway--he either

    1) let young stars like John Abraham, Kareem M., Lamont Jordan, LaVern Coles/Santana Moss, Randy Thomas go, OR

    2) locked the jets in terrible contracts for Curtis M, Wayne C., Chad P. , Justin M., Derrick Blaylock, Dewayne Rob, OR

    3) orchestrated stellar drafts with Bryan (invisible) Thomas, Jon McGraw, Dewayne (this year he'll make the pro bowl) Rob, Victor Hobson, Derrick Strait, Doug Jolley trade-down, etc.

still wonder why we have no talent and a bunch of players with HUGE contracts that would have never got elsewhere--Terry Boobway. Boobway's biggest problem (and there were many) was that he tried to keep his favorite players and their agents happy by throwing TONS of money to them (see Martin, Chrebet, and Pennington, etc), but that's not good for the TEAM and the team's future.

Highly critical, but largely truthful. Bradway made too many mistakes for my liking either.

Would Mangold's sister play nose tackle? Can't be worse than D-Rob!

Very good post but to be fair the Martin contract was partially the fault of Parcells. Martin did use his leverage to kill the Jets chances of building a better team by sucking every last penny out of Bradway and Mangini. The Chrebet deal was beyond stupid and Chad coming off a mediocre at best 03 season basically threatened Bradway with cutting off negotiations before the 04 season if he didn't sign him prior to the season starting. So Pennington with a stellar 02 and a mediocre and injury riddled 03 was able to bluff Bradway into a cap killing deal before the team really knew what they had. They could have simply franchised him after the 04 season if they couldn't have worked out a deal. Big whoop we wouldn't have Mangold right now we would have been able to sign both Kareem and Jordan instead plus picked up another starter in FA.

People laughed at Cincy when they were drafting Olineman a few years ago, and then picking up skill position players in rounds 2-3. Their first priority was the trenches and that helped them build an explosive offense.

He was an inexperienced owner at the time who hopefully learned his lesson with his choice for the new regime

Bradway is stil there, that says everything you need to know about Woody (Limp) Johnson.......

Even worse, Jay Cross is still the President of the New York Jets.

How many NFL teams have a PR guy whose claim to fame was getting the Miami Heat a new Stadium..

Experts applauded the Raiders in 2004, when they signed Kerry Collins as a free agent allowing them to draft the highest rated OT (Robert Gallery) and the highest rated C (Jake Grove) with their first two draft picks in 2004. Having solved their QB problem, they bult their infrastucture bypassing Phillip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler who were all available when the Raiders were on the clock in the last few drafts. Now they have Aaron Brooks as their franchise QB.

What does the Raiders drafting policy have anything to do with the NYJs. Remember if Culter turns into the real deal then we to screwed up if Clemens cannot qualify as a NFL QB

Man, I wish I knew what you were like as a sunshiner with Herm as the HC. I wonder if you were this annoying, only from the other side of the spectrum.

People laughed at Cincinnati because they were laughable. They struck gold with one of the top three quarterbacks in the league (and a class act guy), but we saw how ordinary that team looks when Carson Palmer doesn't have his hands on Rich Braham's ass.
