I know there are a lot of opinions on day one so far...some great, some lousy.perhaps the third round was not as solid as the first....but the big wildcard here is the second round.I could not be happier about the way tangini handled this round..knowing that they wanted clemens and knowing that 35 was too high to pick him the jets obvioulsy traded down..the trade that they pulled off was the kind of move that veteran experienced front offices pulled off.....you cant just say the jets took kellen in the second round...they took kellen and another 2nd rounder in the second round...this added pick MUST......see below
We completely raped Washington in that trade...getting a 07 second rounder was HUGE...I love the Kellen Clemens pick.
dont ask me what happened to ther est of my post, but the point was the jets got their guy with kellen and they bought themselves a "do-over" as well in case the pick doesnt work out...veteran move there, excellent, solid draft move and we should all be impressed with at least that
I wanted to move up IF NO didn't hold us ransom but apparently they wanted more than we'd give up so w/ that I Loved what we did through the 1st 3 picks. Our Ol was obviously a weakness last year but through FA and the draft it is now a BIG strength. I did want a RB but overall i am very happy w/ day 1.
The trade was even in draft chart value. But it was a good job finding a trade. Number 35 = 550 Number 53 = 370 Number 189 = 16 2nd round pick for value is equal to one round later = 85th pick =165
None the less it was still a savy move by our FO. The value may have been equal but we got who we wanted and we were able to get another 2nd round pick next year. Advantage Jets....
Anytime you can pick up extra first day picks in the next season and still come away with the guy you targetted this year I think you've done what you set out to do.
