On the 6pm Sportscenter today Mel Kiper did his mock draft for the entire 1st round, and his top 5 was: Hou - R. Bush NO - M. Williams Ten - M.Leinart NYJ - D. Ferguson GB - AJ Hawk ...and at the 29 he had us taking Mangold - I would def love this draft, it solidifies our line for a whileeeeeeeee and backs up what i've been saying the entire time
It makes no sense to take two offensive linemen with two first round picks. Yea its our biggest team need but there is more than one round in the draft. I dont want to here about how great teams have killer o-lines but why doesnt anyone bring up that these players werent all drafted in rounds one, two or even three. We have to build up the o line and get younger but we dont have to do this all in one year. Im all about getting the best player available, not filling team needs.
I am all for fixing up our Oline but two in the first round, I would rather get one in the first and one in the second.
Drafting Brick and Mangold would be kinda crazy. LT- D'Brickashaw Ferguson LG- Pete Kendall C- Nick Mangold RG- Brandon Moore RT- Adrian Jones Our left side would clearly be the strong side in this case. I would rather not take two OL in the first round... I have to agree though that if Bush, Leinart and Williams were all gone by our pick, that we would first try to trade down and then if we couldnt he would be the pick.
I think Hawk makes the most sense We need value at the four pick and AJ Hawk will be in the pro bowl with or without us. We can take O-Lineman with our other picks. Lets give our defensive coach a stud LB to scheme with.
ANOTHER stud LB OLB: Eric Barton ILB: Jonathin Vilma ILB: AJ Hawk OLB: Victor Hobson -or- OLB: Eric Barton ILB: Jonathin Vilma OLB: AJ Hawk
i agree with taking hawk unless mario is available with mario we can switch him with an olb because he is fast enough. also if we got hawk he would be an outside lineebacker and that would make hobson an inside lineman who would be ther to fill up the holes and blockers while vilma runs wild
with the press i'm hearing on Brick..i'd rather have hawk or Super M and Mangold with 29...although if Tenn passes on Lienert then i'd take the QB
the naysayers will be sorry Young is gonna be a good one we will dwell on this like the marino and favre we shoulda coulda woulda
Jones is NOT a RT..... get it through yer skulls.... draft Ferguson, Jones rides pine, period. He might have worked out at RT in a zone blocking scheme, but NOT in the offense Mangini will run. That line could not block it's way through a paper bag on 3rd and one, nevermind 3rd and goal from the one.
So Jones rides pine. Big deal. I see nothing wrong with fixing the biggest problem on the team, the OL with two stud 1st round picks.
why do people think a 295 pound guy can play LB? it just would not work...he wouldn't be able to ever cover anyone at 6'7, that's why the biggest linebackers are 6'5 at best.
In history - there always comes one individual that breaks the mold. The one who changes lines like - "no one can do that". Super Mario may be that guy. Who knows?
The thing is, those guys probably would be BPA in those spots. I would assume bush, leinart, williams will be gone when we pick-- brick is probably BPA available there-- if not, he is very close, and the need, and importance of position would justify him. mangold has been called the best center prospect in 10 years during the Combine. if we took him at 29, we would have another chance to get the best player at a position-- and also fill a need. like you said, we have many picks- so any other needs can be helped out later on. not to mention- its not like "O-Line" is one position. It is 5 different spots, and they all need to be effective. Its not like drafting 2 WR, or 2 RB.
Why on earth would they have AJ Hawk play the interior? His speed would dictate him to be an edge rusher, as would his experience playing the exterior in college. Victor Hobson would fail from the edge, but he's big enough to eat up blocks inside and free up Vilma for a gap rush or flat coverage.
