Defensive end Jared Allen, the Kansas City Chiefs' designated franchise player, has scheduled visits with two NFL teams even though he doesn't have any assurance the Chiefs would even consider trading him. According to a source, Allen is in the process of scheduling trips to the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the next week. Because he is an unsigned franchise player, Allen has the freedom to meet and talk to teams, but the current price tag for a team wanting to sign him is two No. 1 picks, which is a price most teams aren't willing to consider. With uncertainty at 6 (Maybe Gholston, maybe Dmac) would you if GM even consider getting a proven player for our #6, instead of the gamble that is the 1st round? It is very tempting from a fantasy type of scenario, and I believe it would also benefit us salary wise but the thought of a young impact player is so great, but the thought of another 1st round bust is quite disappointing... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Defensive end Jared Allen, the Kansas City Chiefs' designated franchise player, has scheduled visits with two NFL teams even though he doesn't have any assurance the Chiefs would even consider trading him. Because he is an unsigned franchise player, Allen has the freedom to meet and talk to teams, but the current price tag for a team wanting to sign him is two No. 1 picks, which is a price most teams aren't willing to consider. Negotiations between the Chiefs and Allen are at the very beginning stage and no deal is close. ESPN's Michael Smith reported that according to league sources, the Chiefs don't intend to re-sign Allen and expect to deal him before they pick fifth overall in the NFL draft. The Chiefs confirmed Thursday that they are talking to a "few teams" about a possible trade for Allen. Should the Chiefs be willing to listen to a trade, it creates an interesting scenario. The Chiefs currently have the No. 5 pick in the draft and are in need of offensive linemen. If the Chiefs would consider a trade of Allen, they could select Vernon Gholston or Chris Long to help them at defensive end and then take an offensive lineman with a first-round pick acquired in a trade. Smith reported that according to sources, the Vikings appear to be a front-runner because they have, and are willing to deal, Kansas City what it wants most -- draft choices. Tampa Bay only has five picks in this year's draft and, according to sources, the Bucs are reluctant to include more than a first-round pick for Allen. The Bucs have offered their first-round pick and a fifth-round pick next year, and their proposed deal could also include defensive lineman Jovan Haye, Smith reported. Meanwhile Minnesota is considering offering its first-round pick and a second-round pick in 2009, while the Chiefs would prefer to deal for picks in this year's draft, sources told Smith. John Clayton is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com. ESPN reporter Michael Smith contributed to this report.
I don't understand what you're asking. Are you saying we trade our 1st this year AND next year's pick for Jared Allen? Um...NOOOOO! I'll take the risk with Dmac or Gholston on the Board. Thank you. Seeing how everything plays out, and considering our QB woes after this year, I would not give up our 1st round pick for the next couple of years.
yea lets trade away 1st round picks to then pay this guy top 3 DE/OLB money and then teach him a new base defense.... I love the thinking sometimes, it reminds me of how i'm not that far down the list, and have plenty of fuckin names below mine.........
Jared Allen Posts have been going on all offseason, the answer was no in free agency and the answer is still no. He doesn't fit the 3-4 and 1 he wants a huge contract next season and 2 hes a jerk off
He is not visiting here, he is only visiting Tampa and Minny......or do you jsut not know how to use commas?
I do agree with this statement in general but not in relationship to this thread. If the rumors are true and they get a top 20 pick plus a 3rd for this headcase, IMO it is a great deal for KC.
Who gives a shit if he's a headcase? A lot of players in the NFL are. Sure, Allen had problems in the past with the DUIs, but I think he's cleaned up his act. They are giving up a guy that got 15.5 sacks in 14 games for two draft picks. Allen is a proven player, and he's a damn good one. By adding Allen, Minnesota should have the best defensive line in the NFL...and maybe the best all-around defense.
I got a thought on that Allen-Story: If you are KC, you want an OL, but the best will be long gone and the next best for you (Clady) will be on the Board for at least 3 more picks. But you know both teams are looking for a passrusher. With the 2 best pass rushers already off the board at 5, and you know, there?s no Passrusher, that fits that two teams after the 3rd (Harvey), why wouldn?t you spread around a rumour, that gets you in the mix for that 3rd Passrusher, and get one of those two teams behind you to trade up to #5 to get him, and you could pick up a additional 3rd or 4th. This might be some crazy thinking, but stranger things have happen in the Draft before. If i think he would be someone to eye for the jets? Here?s what i wrote when we talked about targeting him in FA, before he was Franchised: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=744724&postcount=9
Branden Albert is better than Ryan Clady. I could see the Chiefs taking Albert at 5, and then someone like Chris Williams, Gosder Cherilus, or Jeff Otah at 17, but these players only because Ryan Clady won't be around at pick 17.
So is Shawn Merriman... Allen SAYS that he has quit drinking and is only focusing on football. His play certainly displayed great focus and he has an awesome motor. If he has truly cleaned up his act, he'll be a Pro-Bowl defensive end for a long time...
yeah, i think Albert is a better prospect, but when you are looking for a Franchise-LT, i think Albert doesn?t really have anything on Clady, both have strenghts and weaknesses.
