is this true (from tsn online): New York Jets Rookie right cornerback Drew Coleman has won the starting job from Justin Miller. Coleman makes fewer mental mistakes than Miller and is more fundamentally sound. Miller is a poor tackler and is not disciplined in pass coverage.
Well Drew Coleman is now listed as the starter, so it is true. Miller has so much athleticism and talent but he just has to play more smarter. He has it all physically, he just needs to tie it all together
thing about Miller is that he could be a good tackler, but he always goes for the "knockout" hit, and wiffs a lot of the time. If he just wrapped up and brought them down he could be a sure tackler, but he's too crazy for that.
Another sign that this draft was one of the top 3 in team history. D'Brick Mangold Clemens Brad Smith Leon Washington now Coleman is a starter We all know Miller gets burned way too often, something had to be done. So this comes as no shock. But think about a 6th rounder starting at CB as a rookie, that is one fantastic job of scouting and position coaching. Once again, I have to hand it to Mangini for putting the team ahead of contracts and individual pride. Great job, and I think Coleman #2 will do fine (Having 2 Colemans in the backfield, that's strange...)
Maybe that he's as dumb as a stump and more concerned with making ESPN's TOP 10 Plays of the weekend, than actually making a sound tackle...
I share your optimism about the 06 Draft, but they have a long way to go before we can say they're in the top 3 of anything. Eric Coleman started in his rookie season and now we're looking for someone better than him at FS. A player has to overcome the opposition's gameplanning from a season of gametape before they can be considered a successful starter. Opposing teams have exploited Eric Coleman's coverage tendencies and they could (and probably will) end up exploiting large weaknesses in our 06 drafted rookies. In 3 years we may be able to brag about this draft, but it's still crapshoot time.
Every now and then if things ain't working you just go and shake it all up and try something different. Can't possibly be much worse than it already is on defense.
Miller doing PR's and KO returns is fine with me. After seeing Roy Williams make him look like an ant for an almost TD finalized my stance on that.
i would say try to transition miller to play safety opposite Kerry rhodes, but he's probably too dumb for that too.
i dont think miller should play safety i mean the double teams would ruin his head... KR/PR nickel corner is fine for me
miller still sees alot playingtime.. so it doesnt matter.. im happy coleman is playing well i had high hopes for him.
You definitely are the optomist! I've got to tell you, Coleman scares me more than Miller at this point.... We are thin baby, very thin with quality CB's....
untill our dline gets fixed.. our secondary aree gonna have problems. D hall gve up 3 tds yesterday one of the best cbs in the league.. i dont think any of our cbs every gave that up.
Miller was actually matched up against roy williams a good deal on sunday, and didn't let him do much against him.
