Chris Johnson re-signed to 4 year contract

    Chris Johnson-DB- Raiders Feb. 12 - 2:20 pm et

Raiders re-signed CB Chris Johnson to a four-year contract.
For all the heat Al Davis takes, he still has an eye for talent. Johnson was the reason Davis felt comfortable dumping DeAngelo Hall last year and he delivered on his promise, picking off three passes and defending 12 in just seven starts. He will likely open 2009 as Oakland's starting left corner.

Raiders really Have three CBs that excel playing on the outside in N Asomugha, C Johnson and Stanford routt. The problem is None of the three are as comfortable playing inside against the slot reciever. Raiders need another Cb that can handle the slot reciever. Maybe Leigh Bodden ????????? can be the CB that handles the slot reciever.

Good signing, Johnson played well last year. If you can do the job week in and week out with opponents avoiding Nnamdi's side of the field you're pretty good in my opinion...

Thats where the new defensive staff come in. Raiders should improve dramatically against the run with a real professional staff.

Sorry guys I thought I was posting on a Jets board all these years.

In all seriousness though, I think Cable was the only guy who would give the Raiders a shot this year. Although I don't expect them to go 500 I would not be shocked if they did. It's a real up in the air conference/league.

C Johnson really stepped up this year. Hey Joe do you think Raiders retain Asomugha?

everytime I see Aso asked about being in Oakland, his tone of voice is one of "get me the fuck out of here"

unfortunately, he can't yet... until he does, he will not know what a winning season is like.

    poor bastard.

Aso wants out. I watch him talk with Raj Mathai a few times late Sunday night, he seriously plays it out like he wants out of Oakland so bad, but trys to point out that the team is getting better and that its not that bad playing for them. Its obvious oakland is where players go to die.

To be fair, Nnamdi was one of those Al Davis picks that you guys drool over because he's a "reach" and they picked him way too high, etc. Most people at Radio City had no idea who he was when they called his name. He was a safety who Al wanted to convert to a CB. Tagliabue couldn't even pronounce his name. And everyone outside of Oakland smirked.

Well Al was right this time. Nnamdi deserves credit for making himself into the player he is today, but the Raiders deserve credit too. If he's drafted as a safety in the third or fourth round by another team he's probably not in the position to cash in that he is now. He grew up a Raider fan in LA and has a lot of charitable and family ties in the Bay Area. If he can be convinced that Cable won't be fired after a three game losing streak, he will be happy to stay in Oakland in my opinion.

Where did this guy come from? I remember he bounced around the league for a while as a spare corner and returner, but apparently he played really well last year. This is even more impressive since QBs avoid the spot opposite him.

But is this guy a one-year wonder or a legitimately very good starter corner?

And it looks like Nmandi Asomugha is gone. Could they afford to sign him to a mega-contract after signing one CB to a 4 year deal already? I don't think so and it sounds like he wants out anyway.

My guess is he becomes a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.

You wish you had a "big ball of suck" QB like Russell on your roster.

You guys tease Joe for popping off about guys like Faneca when he presumably doesn't watch every Jet game. Then you turn around and say so and so on the Raiders sucks even when you probably only really watched the Raiders when they played the Jets this year. And if that's the only game you watched I don't see how you come to the conclusion that Russell sucks. 17 of 30 for 200 yards and a TD with no picks. Two big clutch passes in OT to set them up for the game winner. And frankly a lot more composed and veteran-like in that game than the Jets' Hall of Famer was.

You would give the Raiders Ratcliffe and Clemens for a shot at a guy like Russell, or you're every bit as biased as you say Joe is.
