It seems a bit ridiculous to think we will get ANYTHING for him in a trade. He makes a ton of money this year (and next) but we wont get more out of him by cutting him loose for cap room. I would play him on the other DE spot. so the line would look like [Ellis]-[Jenkins]-[D-Slob]. Maybe that breathes new life into his tradability before week 6, or at the end of the season. Maybe attatmp to restructure. I didn't want his big fat ass when Tanny gave up 2 first rounders to get him (especially with kevin williams available at our first pick), but he is here, and we are going to need bodies on the D line to rotate. You could slide him in at DT in 4-3 fronts... Cutting him loose would just be silly. If the FO approached him about a restructure, and allowed him to keep the 3 mil roster bonus he is supposed to get this year as part of the deal, that might be in his and our best interest. He already made over 25 million, and he will never see that kind of contract again...and if we cut him, he will be lucky to get 3 mil guaranteed all together, let alone as a bonus.
Interesting theory. He doesnt have the size of an interior lineman, but possibly produce quality number lining up outside. he could also, potentially, draw double-teams. Thus, allowing Pace and Gholston (is he is our choice) to dominate QBs.
He's scheduled to be the highest paid defensive tackle next to Tommy Kelly this year and some people think this will be his last season. Why would he want to restructure?
DRob is the definition of mediocrity and doesnt work as a DE in the 3-4. He is also gonna cost us about 11 million against the salary cap. He will be traded or cut before June 1.
I think I made it clear that he won't get nearly the kind of deal we will give to restructure if he gets cut. I know there is a propensity to overpay D linemen, but not him, and not now. He has under-performed in this system, and really had 1 solid year. If it is his last year, then he should want to make as much as he can this year. His best chance to make that number is here. If he gets cut, you better believe he goes from "highest paid" to way closer to "veteran minimum" in a hearbeat if he wanted to keep playing.
I think he'd be an excellent asset if we could get him to restructure his salary. He has experience at both NT and DE in the 3-4, could be other DT when we switch it up into a 4-3 from time to time and could help Jenkins mentally with the transition from 4-3 DT to 3-4 NT. You would think he'd realize his contract is ridiculous and agree to some kind of restructure, but honestly who wants to take a pay cut unless they're forced to? I supposed he actually will have to no matter where he ends up.
hopefully he or his agent realize that he is forced to. he can either play here for less money, or he can play somewhere else for way less money...
I think this is the way we would have to sell it to him, but you never know how arrogant Robertson or his agent is. His agent may think Robertson is HOF material for all we know. It makes the most sense to re-structure to a friendlier deal, but I somehow sense we will cut him before June 1. If Robertson really wanted to re-sructure it would have been done by now.
The difference may be playing time. He's most likely not going to be a full time starter here. Somewhere else he can be.
The only draft room Bradway should be ever allowed in is as a judge in the all you can eat Texas Chili and Baked Beans contest..........................
Keeping him would be even worse. He has no place to play. He will never restructure his contract for the Jets, why would he? So he can sit on the bench? You need to see his side of it. He knows once he is cut he can make a deal with a 4-3 defensive team and maybe resurrect his career.
Whilst I think your theory has some merit and keeping Robertson would make a ton of sense if we can restructure his salary, I take great offence at your "D'slob" jibes. Why slate a player who might not have panned out as atop 5 pick when he has been a good servant to the Jets often playing out of position. He was maturing nicely at DE before the 3-4 change and I always saw a great motor in the guy. It saddnes me that 'Jet' fans can't just put maybe a "Reach" on behalf of Herm Edwards behind them. Dwayne Robertson is a top NFL player and I hope he reaches his real potential with New York rather than kicking us in the ass later with an other team.
I honestly call him D Slob because he is a giant fat ass....and the 'D Rob' nickname sort of allows it. he really had 1 solid showing and that was when ferguson had a career year, along with abraham and ellis, it was a solid front 4. but I think the fact that he was 4th overall and has been at the most a marginal player allows for some creative nick-namery. even if I'm not that creative with it.
play him next to harris on running downs. with drob and harris both playing the middle, NO team runs on us between the hash marks. and if he ever got lucky and caught a tipped pass or picked up a fumble, it would be really funny watching him 'scamper' 80 yards.
Agreed, he's a decent player at times but he never even came close to the hype that caused us to trade up for him. He's just average.
