Here's a link to sports illustrated that has alot of snippets from different papers about different prosects and there's one in particular about the Jets..... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/scorecard/04/05/truth.rumors.nfl/index.html The Jets will hold a private workout with USC QB Matt Leinart the week of April 17. The club, however, is still believed to be leaning toward selecting either Virginia OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson and N.C. State DE Mario Williams with their fourth selection overall in this month's NFL Draft. -- Newark Star-Ledger I would be happy with either of these players (Matt or Brick), even if we took Vince Young I wouldn't mind, but I do want Ferguson the most, and also another OL in the first 4 picks. The DE would add too much depth and I would hope we'd look to trade a DE during the season if we take Williams....
We're going to need a lot more defensive linemen than we have had in the past, now with Mangini here.
Yes, Yes Jtuds did. About the need for more D-linemen....I am not sure I understand. Is this because Mangini will get them hurt, or because tere will be formations what use a bunch of D-linemen at once?
IMO,there's no such thing as "too much depth" when it comes to d-linemen. Also,I agree that 90% of things we hear from NFL teams about the draft(especially the Jets under Mangini, who learned from tight-lipped Belichick) is smoke-screen.
I agree...we have signed Kimo Von Oelhoffen and Monsanto Pope...I think the Jets have their eyes set on the deep LB class.
Not to start trouble or anything, but what depth on the DLine are we talking about? DRob? He has yet to prove he can be capable in the 3-4, and he wasn't exactly awe-inspiring in the 4-3. Ellis? He has had flashes of brilliance, but given how many people wanted to choke Abe for demanding more money, I would think people would expect a bit more from a guy who got a pretty nice payday last preseason. Thomas? He's been disappointing, to say the least. Pouha? I don't think I can even come up with a wisecrack on him. Invisible man, maybe? We lost the best lineman we had. Why not replace him with a guy who can make an impact right away? Why does everyone want to go with the flashy picks? Leinhart? We have QBs. If we want a new young one, Quinn is coming out next year. Brick? Just a few short weeks ago people were talking about how overrated he is, that he can't block for the run. Not only is Mario a good pick for a need, but he is probably the safest pick of all at the 4 slot. Hawk could be a good pick, but we have LBs. Yes, I know most people don't like Barton and Hobson, but I think we are fine with them. We aren't making the playoffs this year, so why rush things, trying to fill holes that may not even exist? Remember, there are probably a lot of guys who "underperformed" last year who might be great players, now that Hermie's Love Camp has moved out of town.
Why people hate D'Brickashaw Ferguson I will never understand. Have you ever seen Ferguson play? Did you see our offensive line last season? Yeah a lot of later round O-linemen work out beautifully. But there's a reason that Ferguson is projected to go in the top 5 and somebody like McNeil (who I adore) or O'Callaghan is going to go in the late 1st to second rounds. Because Ferguson is better.
Isn't it a foregone conclusion that the Saints are drafting Williams? Alio, do you want the Jets to trade up? Yes the Jets have QBs...back-up/stop-gap QBs
No way I would trade up, for ANY player this year. Four is a great spot. No matter what, there is talent, why give up picks we have stockpiled, at great cost I might add. (Abe trade, the loss of key FAs, Herm [well maybe that wasn't so bad...]) We don't know if the Saints are taking Mario. If they do, then grab Hawk or Brick. At that point, one of them is the BPA for us. Blairthomas, we have no idea how these QBs will play in our new offense. If Penny comes back honestly healthy, he is a good West Coast Offense QB. Who knows if a second chance is what Ramsey might need? Then there are the other two options at QB I have been growing blue in the face talking about. First, I would be happy if we picked Croyle later in the draft. If the Jets aren't convinced about him, we could trade for someone else's #1 next year. Then, if Penny/Ramsey doesn't work out, we trade up for Quinn, who I feel will be better than Matt/Vince/Jay. I'm thinking long-term here. It really feels like this board has gone from darkside to sunshine over the past few weeks. We aren't making the playoffs this year. Realistically, we are a couple of years from our run, so why try to solve world hunger this April? Make the moves to prepare for the year 3 rush of the new regime.
I know. Players just dont wander into the projected top 4 without reason. If McNeil or Winston were so much better than D'Brick, why werent they projected higher than him? I can understand peoples arguments for McNeil, he never gave up a sack, but you cant base it all off of that. You got to factor in potential too. If people didnt think like that, Mike Hass would be the 1st WR taken, Elvis Dumervil would be projected ahead of Mario Williams, and Drew Olson would be the premier QB of the draft and none of that would make any sense
