http://www.newyorkjets.com/videos/v...t_for_Us/acbe65b4-41eb-4193-beab-ffd04606221d Jets.com has this interview with Josh running over there. Give it a listen. He seems like a nice guy, pretty smart too, who really wants to do good here. Too bad most fans never want to see him take a single snap. Probably for the best. Is there ANY hope he lights it up here? Like Fitz's first year?
The trouble is, that would be the worst thing that could happen. It would mean neither of Petty or Hack had stepped up, it would take us out of the running for a top prospect in next year's draft and it would leave us praying that an ageing journeyman could repeat an anomalous season in 2018. We'd be in no-man's land.
Nice guy, maybe, but not a true QB. He's no more then a backup. I want to see Hack and Petty get behind center from game 1 on. That way we will finally know what each of them can bring. Not so worried that we fall flat and get a high draft pick. Who knows if any of the "favorite" QB's can make it thru the year. Some where along the line we need a decent QB. Hopefully Hack or Petty will do that this year and we can still draft a QB next year.
Agree, this guy is a total sicko. Oh sorry, wrong thread. I thought I clicked on Josh McCown, kitten raper.
McCown is here to be a player-coach and he knows it. Lead by example, show Petty/Hackenberg the attitude, work ethic, and attention to detail that you need to have.
The Jets have no need of a player-coach. They need a player. They can also hire a half dozen coaches but with NFL rules on limiting rosters and the CBA regulating how much work players can do there is no room for a player-coach.
If he starts more than 4 games that is a huge indictment on Hack and Petty. It is in the best interest of our franchise that he barely sees the field this fall.
I want to disagree. There is a Reason why the Steelers specifically are always in the playoffs they draft high teens and in the twenties CONSISTENTLY and still contend and make the playoffs. Having an exciting year may not be the worst thing that happens to us. If we are exciting that means one of two things. Some of the guys are stepping up and excelling or it was a fluke. I do want a high pick fo a high chance at one of the QBs but wouldn't be sad if my team was exciting
As an NFL starting QB? I personally want nothing to do with a career backup who's turning 38 years old. With that said I love what McCown recently stated about Christian Hackenberg. "He’s how you draw a quarterback up,” McCown said of the Jets’ 2016 second-round pick. “Big, strong arm, athletic. He fits that mold, for sure. And his mindset, it’s right on. He works very hard. I think he’s a sharp kid. He’s got a lot in front of him. He’s got a great opportunity.”
I've always been high on McCown. I know he's not a FQB but in that tier below them of competent guys who can keep things ticking over, I rate him as one of the best. Unfortunatly we don't have a HOF run game or legendary defence that will carry this team, we're firmly stuck in development and therefore there is a logic against playing him. For me it's a case of wheter Hack or Petty can get near him before we go to Buffalo. If either can then they are the #1 guy but if Hack still can't hit the ocean and Petty hasn't developed further then I've no problem in seeing McCown on the field. At the least we'll see if the team (and coaches) can compete at full strength before we slip into tank mode and see if the kids have any 'tebow' about them (bad in practice and on the eye but somehow can win).
Guys, there are A LOT of really good QB prospects coming out next year beyond the Allen, Darnold, Rosen players. A LOT.
If it's true that there will be plenty of top rated QB's coming out. Especially during the 1st round... Then i believe it's even more important that one of our QB's, especially Hackenberg due to his size, arm & youth (age) show true signs and flashes at QB. This would give the Jets a real advantage in terms of stealing a monster outside pass rusher or a big time HB that can change the culture of our offensive attack with our 1st pick. All while other teams scramble for their QB's, Safteys and D-Lineman ala positions that we're already well established at. The way Hackenberg looks here in 2017 will hold a lot of importance moving forward. Can we build around this kid? If so i already can't wait to scout 2018 HB's, OLB's, CB's or his futute LT come round 1 of 2018. But we've gotta first see this 22 year old take the field and play in order to (then) find out. At the age of 38, I want McCown on this roster strictly as our backup. How many teams out of his former 8-9 teams have announced McCown as their starting QB? Before the season started? And without injuries happening to their #1? Then why should the Jets do the same? If both of Hack & Petty fail. Then you put in McCown to complete the mop-up work while the team is no longer in contension. I want these young guns on the field when starting off the season. To see what they're made up of. To see how they look. And to more importantly determine if we must go QB or OLB/HB/LT/CB come the 1st round of 2018. Because if one of Hack flash? We'll then be in position to steal a real weapon come 2018's first pick. But we have to find out 1st. We won't even have a chance to find out for ourselves if McCown starts off the season. Goes on to play like a career backup. Struggles etc and then by week 5-8 we're making a QB change while A.) Starters could already be hurt or B.) The team is no longer in playoff contension. Imo that situation wouldn't be fair to our two younger QB's and/or wouldn't be putting them in position for success in order to get a real/true evaluation of these QB's; before heading into 2018's draft class (ala the year of the QB).
The Steelers can afford to draft in the teens and twenties. They have their QB. The Jets don't. But I agree with you on one thing - I wouldn't be sad if my team was exciting. Afterwards I might look back and think 'what the hell was I thinking?', but at the time I'd enjoy the ride!
