Well, the Jets are doomed. Are going to see a hundred threads like this with different quotes before the season starts?
Holy shit. People REALLY need to get over the fact that Jones is gone. He's not coming back. I was always one of the biggest TJ supporters on this board, but threads like these are going to make me hate him.
The problem is people are comparing Lt to the starting verison of Jones. LT is coming in as a backup player, the guys who should be compared to Jones '09 is Shonn Greene '10. I was very disappointed we let Jones go BUT I am happy we replaced him w/ a solid vet. if we signed LT top start and get 300 carries I'd be going nuts right now but he was signed as a part time player that will also hopefully include leon washington in our stable of RBs.
People need to understand that our oline is a HUGE factor here. You put LT behind our oline last season...and stick Jones in SD....i bet their season totals would be reflective of that switch. The guy who wrote that blurb will look like a total jackass....when TJ is exposed behind KC's shitty oline this upcoming season.
fannation LOL. whats next a bleacher report "article" saying the Jets won't win the AFC east this year. Oh NO!
fannation isn't a blog or fan site like the bleacher report. it links to articles from professional writers and that article was written by Ian O'Connor of the Bergen Record.
LOL, nice. As Junc said, LT is comming in as a back up / #2 type role for us. That is perfect for him at this point in his career. Jones carried a very heavy load last year and was almost useless in the playoffs. It was obvious his days as an extremely productive 300 carry back are done. Jones was reportedly crushed when told he was being handed the back up role. He was also not willing to take less money to stay with the Jets in that role. LT is coming in at the lower price knowing he was not the #1 guy. Finally, behind our line, LT is going to have a fine season. Behind KC's line? Thomas is going to have a very, very poor year. These threads should be fun to review around mid october.
I don't wish to perpetuate the tiresome and pointless if somewhat inevitable TJ vs LT discussion, but I have a question. If the Jets have made such a big error, why weren't Minnesota, Philadelphia and New Orleans, all of whom had expressed serious interest in LT, competing with Kansas for TJ? After all, you'd think that those three, all with major designs on winning the Superbowl some time soon, would waste no time in capitalising on the error by the Jets front office, but instead they decided to let Jones go to a team that has no chance of winning its division never mind a SB in favour of competing with us for LT. Or are they all more interested in selling PSLs as well?
Lt made a smart move. He has been injury prone the last few years but im betting that San Diego made the call to drink the Rivers Cool Aid and save some money by not giving Lt the carries he got in previous years. Im hoping he is not done and we actually got a steal. Last time they let a player of his caliber go it was Drew Brees and we know how that story ended last year. This man is arguably one of the best five Rb's to ever step on a football field and he has never had a line to run behind like ours plus he does not have to take on the full load. I think we actually got a steal if he is healthy.
Jones was crushed BUT he handled it great, the media and fans never knew about it until after the season so he didn't let it affect his teammates. Jones also offered the Jets the same package he signed for in KC so he was willing to come back for less.
My buddy...a life long Jets fan hates this move...here are some of his other gems from years past... "I hate the Sanchez pick...whatever happens it should be Kellen Clemens team this year" "Hiring Mangini was a great move...this guy is going to win multiple SB's" "Getting Jones from the Bears wasnt the smartest thing...Benson is the real talent there" Point being...how about we just wait and see before we start shitting ourselves.
In the NFL you base age on rush attempts, and LT has about 600 more then TJ. So in RB NFL years LT is 2 years older then TJ. Then again LT has more carries for a reason. LT's career average yards per carry is .3 higher then TJ's, and that includes TJ being behind one of the best lines in football for 3 years. I agree TJ is gone and LT is here, to backup and change the pace, and god willing have a two back set with Leon.
