Not sure what to make of this. Firing Hackett would of been the clear cut change of direction sign this really isn't imo. If 2025 still ends up being a Rodgers Take 3 season then I don't think this really matters much.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One year too late. One of the worst GMs in professional sports history. Please spare me the 2022 draft. With every great trade/acquisition, there are multiple failures. Colossal failure. Just a loser through and through. Let the healing begin.
Like the head coach, he deserved to go, but all of this shit in the middle of the season is just further signs of instability and stupidity. What a joke this franchise is.
He was an "offensive line guru" that never had a good offensive line. That's what ultimately wrecked his job performance. As for the timing? I suspect Douglas told Woody that Salah was the problem and that if they could just replace him and trade for Adams, the ship would be back on course and they'd have a chance at the playoffs. Woody, once again, is experiencing embarrassment (as he should) and, as has always been true, the only way to get an NFL owner to make changes is when he personally feels embarrassed. They only give a shit when the media starts mocking them.
Its about f'n time. Is he the worst Jet GM ever? I think its not quite as bad as Idzik but he's in the top 5. I think the word got out that JD opened a backchannel to the Ravens that forced Woody's hand before he wanted. Now why does Nate Hackett still have a job? Is it still because Woody keeps deferring to Rodgers?
I am not sure that JD ever had the worst single year as a Jets GM but he did so, so much damage given the extended length of time he was given to screw things up.
Actually after digesting this news a little more this is feeling a little too much like Saleh. Which was more about appeasing the bloodlust in the moment then doing anything that actually moves us forward. At least unlike Saleh's firing this ultimately can't make things any worse though i guess. But yeah, that it's not Hackett being fired here instead is extremely depressing imo. That would of certainly got my more excited attention.
He made some really nice moves, but some of them were head-scratchers. In 2023, he didn't sign a backup QB and didn't bolster a geriatric O-line. Result: Rodgers injured in 1st game and no backup QB. Awesome defense wasted. In 2024, he lets a good chunk of the D-line go for no apparent reason. Result: the D-line, especially the pass rush, has gotten worse since last season. Also, his free agent signings have been mostly terrible. I can't defend him anymore. His record speaks for itself. Let's hope the next GM is much better.
Exactly how I feel. To me it feels reactive rather than productive. Maybe the "what" is right but the when and how reek of an unstable franchise. Only caveat is if they actually can bring in a legitimate GM candidate now I'll walk my statement back. If it's just some schmuck from the current soon to be ousted regime then seriously, what's the point?

I think it's unfortunate. I feel he has done more to bring talent to the Jets than any previous GM. However, the mistakes counted against his watch were glaring, 1) Zach Wilson, 2) Robert Saleh and 3) Aaron Rodgers. Nevertheless, I'm not convinced these errors entirely fall on his shoulders, but they all contributed mightily to the Jets current dilemma.
