"At Sunday's New York Jets match-up against the New England Patriots, Jets' backup quarterback Tim Tebow's guest will be Marine Sgt. Matthew Berube, who hails from Ocala, Florida.

In September 2011, Berube was on patrol in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan when he stepped on an improvised explosive device. The explosion severely injured the left side of his body, causing multiple broken bones in his left foot and numerous shrapnel wounds, according to a news release.

Still, he continued to lead his squad away from any possible secondary IEDs and later received a Purple Heart for his heroism.

Berube, who currently lives in Virginia Beach, underwent several grueling surgeries, including an amputation of his leg 10 inches from the knee down. During his recovery, he received a "encouraging call from Tim Tebow that helped raise his spirit to overcome the uncertainties before him," according to the release.

Sunday's visit to was arranged through the Tim Tebow Foundation's W15H program, in partnership with Dreams Come True of Jacksonville. Dreams Come True is a nonprofit that fullfills the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Tebow's W15H program does the same when the child's wish is to meet Tebow.

Also, Berube will receive gift packages including travel, accommodations and dining, according to the release.

Thank you for posting the article. I love that Tebow does things like this for adults and for children. Usually he doesn't make any big deal out of it, and spends time with them before and after the game. BTW, I also went to your website and I'm very impressed by all the good you do as well :)

Honest question, if Tebow stays in the league long enough, will he ever win the Walter Peyton Man of the Year award?

Wow, Diddy - I had to Google it and it sounds like a wonderful honor to receive. Tebow meets the humanitarian requirement, but we have to wait and see if he meets the excellence on the field requirement.

Sweetness himself was one of the all-time greats.

Marine Sgt. Matthew Berube wasn't able to make it as his wife fell really ill and had to go to the hospital :(
