The Colts have some good TEs and there was some mention in a few places of how well the Jets handled them, but I didn't see a description of how they handled them anywhere so I took a look myself. Most of the time when they had multiple TEs on the field they were generally blocking for runs or passes. Virtually all plays they had at least one TE on the field. In the first half they used their TE a lot to block on passing plays. When they went out on passing plays they were generally covered by DD and he seemed to do OK. When DD was blitzing the TE was mostly covered by Calvin Pryor. The TE was also covered by Lattimore on one play, by Harris on one play and by Jarret on one play. I don't think the colts ran any seam routes with their TEs (don't have access to the all 22 video so I just watched the broadcast). The patriots love to run seam routes with Gronk, so I'm not sure how they would handle that, but I assume they'd jam him on pretty much every play. Has anyone noticed DDs improvement in pass coverage?
We made bad tight ends look like Gronk throughout Rex's tenure. Was very nice to see us shut down what we thought would be the key for the Colts Monday night.
Weren't the Colts down to their 3rd TE against us? Allen didn't play and Fleener got hurt. Ertz should be a decent challenge this week.
colts didnt have anyone at tight end. their starters got hurt and their reserves where in exclusively to block. this week we need to worry about ertz, and moreso sproles. we have no one who can cover that guy
Actually, Fleener (80) played most of the game and he had over 50 receptions last year for nearly 800 yards and has 130 career receptions for 1600 yards. He's not Gronk, but he's better than anyone we have. They covered him pretty well, except on one play that was a busted coverage where Luck threw the ball to someone else. He played 46 offensive snaps against the jets out of a total of 64 offensive snaps. Allen also played 21 snaps (#1 TE according to their depth chart) and Doyle played 29.
