"Vilma, signed through the 2009 season, is definite trade bait. Sources have told The Post the Jets have talked to more than one team about trading him.

Speculation about why his season ended prematurely has run rampant, including that the Jets wanted to put Vilma on injured reserve so he couldn't further damage his trade value. "

Whatever. Obviously, he can't be traded now that the deadline has past.

Vilma will be gone next year. I am certain... I just hope we don't get ass raped in a trade. But this is the Jets... so what I should say is - I hope we don't get ass raped badly.

We've actually, recently, faired very well when it comes to trading our proven playmakers for draftpicks....

Key for 2 1sts, Abraham for a 1st are the two best examples

Yeah he'll be gone....especially the way Harris has been playing. Sucks because i would like to see him behind a true 3-4 NT. O'well also sucks because I bought his jersey LOL

Mangini is one tough SOB and maybe a genius afterall. Making his ILB have knee surgery so he won't decrease his trade value is just a brilliant move..

That's not recent. Recent is Edwards for a 4th when it should have been a 2nd and Kendall for a 5th when it should have been a 3rd or 4th. (It was Washington after all)

Though he's my favorite Jet he just doesn't fit the scheme. He is a true playmaker so anything less than a first or a mid round pick and a quality starter then we should keep him.

That would be the first time I had ever heard such an outlandish idea. Put a guy on IR to save his trade value? What kind of crazy speculation is that? How about letting him play to increase his value?

Man it is going to be a long year......

I thought Vilma was supposed to be having surgery on his knee sometime soon. Could just be a rumor, but if thats the case and he'll be sidelined for any portion of next year also, why would anyone waste a pick for him when they can just wait for his contract to expire?

It would be nice to know exactly whats going on now with this situation.

I say Vilma yields us a second-round draft choice - not a coveted first. Only because teams know he'll become a FA in 2008 and reports have said he's unhappy here playing the 3-4. Thus we have zero leverage.

Yeh everyone and their mother knows he's moving......but hopefully enough teams will want him so we can get a late 1st rounder

Think we can get anything for Robertson or Chad??

I don't think he's going anywhere. They'd be a lot more forthcoming about his injury. As it is, two seasons of declining production plus a mysterious injury that may or may not have caused him to get benched, but was enough to IR him for the season? I don't think you could depress his trade value any more if you tried.

What did we get in return for Hugh Douglas, a fourth-rounder? That was pretty bad as it turned out.

Well they could have known he was going to need surgery anyway, and add to the fact that Harris was no sudden homerun...they had to have known from practice that Harris was a better fit.

Vilma isn't doing well in the scheme....don't want to bench him because he's a cappy, and that WILL hurt his trade value. He has an injury...a very vague one, to say the least, and you tell him the deal...dude I need Harris in. We can do this my way, or you can sit on the bench getting angry and possibly becoming a distraction. The press would eat this CS alive if they benched Vilma.

Think about some things that go on in your daily business and put the same look towards football....not very different.

Maybe he was going to get it [surgery] at the end of the season anyway, and they made a deal to put him on IR, run his routine mystery surgery, and now he sells himself as a great player that had minor surgery and is ready to play upon successful physical.

I think we will get a late first rounder, alot like the Abraham trade.

With that pick, I would hope to go defense, along with our top five pick.

Chris Long and Frank Okam baby...lol...

Why would you trade the guy when is having season ending surgery on his knee? His value would be at it's lowest. Harris starting has nothing to do with whether we keep him. Remember in a 3-4 there are two ILB's. If we had a real line in front of Vilma he would be fine in the 3-4.

Mainly, because if we do not trade him we will get nothing at all.

I was kind of being sarcastic... Thus the line "trading our proven playmakers for draft picks".... I don't advocate it, but if we're going to be stupid, we may as well get something out of it
