Texans GM {Charley Casserly} has publicly CONFIRMED rumors and admitted the Texans are listening to offers and are open to trading down ... as of this moment they are actively shopping the pick Several rumors have the Jets in the mix, perhaps offering John Abraham for a swap of 1st RD Picks Most of these rumors assume the Jets are dealing up for a QB, but I disagree ... IMO it's a smokescreen ... if the Jets trade up to #1 Overall I am fairly certain they are trading up for REGGIE BUSH  As for the Texans, rumor has it they have reversed course because they love Brick Ferguson, he fills a massive need, and they believe they can trade down a few spots, ADD A BIGTIME PLAYER {or more picks}, and still secure the franchise LT ... #4 is likely the cutoff point to secure Brick, and word has it they really like John Abe If I'm Tanny I want the Texans to throw in super-fast WR Jerome Mathis ... I can't let them have Abe {and Brick} for just Reggie Bush ... Gotta throw in Mathis just to make it fair ... or maybe OLB Antwan Peek? Texas acquire John Abraham and the #4 Overall Pick {Brick Ferguson} Jets acquire Jerome Mathis {or Peek} and the #1 Overall Pick {Reggie Bush} I'd make that deal

Jets seeking Leinert The Jets are the team that is hottest to trade up with the Houston Texans for the first overall pick in the April draft. And the player the Jets want, according to the scuttlebutt, is Southern Cal quarterback Matt Leinart. The buzz makes sense from the stated positions of the teams involved. Houston general manager Charley Casserly said earlier Sunday that the Texans already have talked with "a couple of teams," none of which he identified, about trading the top pick. And new Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, asked recently if he would have any qualms about trading up from the team's No. 4 spot, said, "We're going to consider all our options." The trade can work only if the Jets were to kick in another high pick, a possibility with a trade of defensive end John Abraham http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTY4ODgzMjQmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
I think this story has legs, Toon ... Casserly admitted he is shopping the pick and I believe the Jets are in the mix with Abe as the bait ... but I think the QB part of this scenario is a smoke-screen by the Jets ... if they trade up to #1 Overall, I'll be shocked if it's not for Reggie Bush
I wouldn't trade Abraham + #4 just for the chance to move up few spots. That's waht the trade would essentially be. I don't do the trade if the plan its to take Leinert, I don't think he's a big upgrade over whoever will be there at 4. I'd only consider trading up for Bush.
Damn when i first joined this board there were talks of taking Reggie with our number one and Cutler with our number two. Why can't it go like that anymore
I don't think that's gonna happen. The Texans would want more for the 1st pick, than Abe and the fourth, especially when the Texans know that the Jets want to trade Abe
cause we DONT NEED A RUNNING BACK we need a QB Pennington is coming back next year with a 2-3 million base salary and they need a quality back and Martin can still run and so can blaylock
so the jets will take cutler and we dont need the #1 pick the texans wont take cutler and neither will the saints and the titans will take young
I would have to agree. There is no way we can let Abe go to move up 3 spots. Houston would have to throw in someone. Why do the Jets always get the fuzzy end of the lolipop on draft day????
I'll second that, they trade up to #1 and take Leinart OMFG Abe + #4 pick for Houstons #1 and another high round draft pick, a 3rd rounder seems fair.
I am glad to see that Herm left some of his kool-aid behind when he went to Kansas City. Just a reality check folks... 4-12 teams with numerous holes and massive salary cap problems DO NOT trade up to get the #1 pick in the draft. Especially not to draft a player that will only touch the ball 15-20 times max per game (combo of rushes, receptions and KR/PR) like Reggie Bush. That touch number per game is probably too high, because I can't see any team using the NUMBER 1 PICK in the draft to return kicks...imagine the outcry if he got hurt on special teams. Additionally, with NOODLE ARM at QB, I can't see the Jets passing on 3 potential (Leinert, Cutler and Young---although I think he is gonna be a bust) franchise QBs. OR passing on a potential franchise left tackle given the atrocious condition of our offensive line. At the end of the day, economics will dictate what the Jets will do. They probably will have difficulty getting the #4 pick signed under our current salcap condition. I expect that the most likely scenario would be for the Jets to actually trade down for more picks. As for Abraham, expect him to traded away for picks in 2007...when it will either be an uncapped year or the Jets will have more cap room to structure multiple first round pick contracts.
Yep, that could do it for me, too. First, I think it would be a huge mistake to trade up. Why? We need to acquire picks, not trade them away. If we do end up getting swooned into trading up to #1, and if we don't select Bush, I will have to go into seclusion for awhile to get over it. If we traded up to #1 for Leinart we may as well get in line for the next time Sports Illustrated discusses football's all-time busts again. I am not saying he will bust, but I do not think he is #1 talent, and there is some definite risk that he could seriously under-perform.
To all who have said they are out of football if we trade up for Leinart. One question, how soon are you guys back on board after Leinart is leading us to the playoffs and becoming a pro bowl QB? My opinion is if we are trading up, it will be for Leinart. I do think Houston will trade the pick to either the Jets or more likely Tenn. You can make the case to move up for a franchise QB not a RB..
Who is Reggie Bush and his 200 pound frame going to run behind? That would be the dumbest move in the history of dumb moves.
You are forgetting that this is a once-in-a-decade prospect, who with his versatility could be the great weapon we need to progress, my feeling is this, the next draft won't have another Bush, but it may have another Leinart, or we just take a QB with the second/third round pick. Although honestly I would be happy with either prospect.
