Jets | Team visits with T. Teague
    Fri, 31 Mar 2006 05:38:26 -0800

Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports the New York Jets visited with free agent OL Trey Teague (Bills) Thursday, March 30. They may make a strong bid to sign him.

    What do you guys think?

Teague can play both tackle and center, but he's really average to below average. He has versatility as a backup, but if he's the starter it's a huge downgrade.

We definitely should make a strong bid to sign one of the FA centers on the market as insurance, should Mangold be taken before us in the draft

This wouldn't be the best signing in the world, but the bottom line is our OL is incredibly thin at this point, and any OL signing is a good signing as long as it is cheap.

Below average? IMO, that is a bit strong. I still see him as a good player who gives his all, certainly won't hurt you at the position. His versatility is also a plus. I should go over to Billszone and see what they think....

I started a thread over in Billszone about him and early reports have them all agreeing with you xjets2002x. They say he misses a lot of blocks and ends up on his butt too often, a huge downgrade over Mawae...

I think he is better than Goodwin, so to replace Goodwin with Teague should be a good signing

so he plays like Mawae last yr? hahaha

seriously though, good point and questioning baamf

If we could get him cheap I wouldnt mind it, cuz we have nearly nobody now.

people need to realize Kendall will be done after this yr or one more.

Teague is a workhorse, and he plays several OL positions well. Not great, but he's certainly a guy who comes to play and has good work ethic. I wouldn't compare him to K. Mawae, but he's a decent player in my opinion....

I think mawae was just plain bad last year -- so how much worse could this dude be?

You're totally right. I watched the Buffalo game on 1/1 two nights ago, and Goodwin was God-awful. Sam Adams slapped Goodwin around all game. Honestly, Cannizzaro would be an upgrade over Goodwin.

As great as Mawae was for the Jets during his career here, he did play poorly this past season prior to his injury. It could have been Dinger's new system, but it could also mean he has declined a little bit.

One of the all time dumbest comments I've ever read on this board.

I'd be fine with Trey Teague starting for the Jets. He'd be an upgrade, and they have the need. They could do worse.

I would rather have Jeff Faine on this team. He is very young and is signed through 09. He would only cost a 4th rd pick. Then we can use number 29 on someone else.

Agreed, Faine for a 4th would be a steal.
