According to Rotoworld: The Jets have claimed WR Aundrae Allison off waivers from the Vikings, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. It's a nice landing spot for Allison because he'll have an opportunity to play on offense right away. With 18 career catches, however, Allison seems unlikely to solve New York's gaping hole opposite flanker Jerricho Cotchery. Source: Drew Rosenhaus on Twitter http://rotoworld.com/content/Home_NFL.aspx I don't think this helps, but I don't know the player. It seems it just reduces the number of opportunities the current WR's get, and I think we need to see more of them not less, so we can see what we have in DC, WW, etc.
Allison still has potential. If Ellard can straighten him out, I like this pickup. Cant hurt us more then it can help us...
Good guy to take a flier on. Has a lot of skills, if anything happened to Washington he'd be solid as a return man.
Longest kickoff return in Vikings history... 104 yards. I like sacrificing a guy like this over using Leon or some other key player that we don't want crippled. This wasn't my idea of a stunning WR pickup, however. I still say we need a real threat to make this whole offensive combination something special.
He's averaging 12yds a reception. If he turns out to be reliable, I don't think oppossing Defenses will be able to stack the box as much as they'd like. I could see using him in a few packages. Maybe line him and Clowney up on opposite ends along the sideline, and force the D to play honest, with Keller in there, as well as Stuckey playing the slot. That formation pretty much screams pass; give it to Leon on the Draw. Bada bing bada boom, 1st down. No seriously though, wasn't that stellar of a pickup, could be waived before TC is up, let's not all get our panties in a bunch.
Vikings Cut WR Aundrae Allison by Gonzo on Aug 4, 2009 5:46 PM CDT in Vikings 19 comments I had a nice little article about the potential battle for WR roster spots in Training Camp all ready to go, but the Vikings have decided to go and make a change, so now my article is a bit out of date. Yes, in a move that comes as a bit of a surprise. . .to me, anyway. . .the Vikings waived WR Aundrae Allison this afternoon after being unable to work out a trade for him. Allison, the Vikings' 5th round selection in 2007 out of East Carolina University, has long had a reputation as an outstanding athlete with great speed. Unfortunately, he also had a reputation for having a lousy work ethic and for having a bit of an attitude problem. If I had to guess, the latter is the reason that he now finds himself unemployed. Allison does have his name in the Vikings' record books. . .he holds the record for the longest play in team history with his 104-yard kickoff return against the Detroit Lions in 2007. He looked to have a pretty bright future with the Vikings as a return man, having broken a few returns for 40+ yards as a rookie. Then, in 2008, he only fielded 6 kickoffs with a long return of 22 yards as Brad Childress thought that Maurice "Straight Into the Pile" Hicks was a better option at the kick return spot (among others). Allison had fallen behind both Jaymar Johnson and Darius Reynaud on the depth chart, and with the Vikings only keeping five or six receivers, there was no room for Allison on the team. He's young enough and he's a very good athlete, so I don't think he'll be out of work long. Maybe he'll make more out of his next opportunity than he made out of his chance in Minnesota. http://www.dailynorseman.com/2009/8/4/977479/vikings-cut-wr-aundrae-allison Vikings cut Aundrae Allison Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 4, 2009 5:26 PM ET The Vikings held a one day tag sale for wide receiver Aundrae Allison and no one showed up. After trying to deal the third-year receiver Tuesday, the Vikings waived the former fifth-round pick. Allison has great speed, but never emerged from a mediocre pack in Minnesota. It wouldn't be surprising if he was claimed on waivers because of his youth and developmental upside. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/04/vikings-cut-aundrae-allison/
Decent size with great speed. I like his potential as a return man, and I'm a little surprised that the Vikes let him go as early as they did. He can be something, but I'm not sure we're the best team for him, we're still trying to develop the guys at the 2 and 3 WR spots, much less the 6th guy.
doubt he makes the team. the attitude thing is a nice red flag. rex doesnt seem like the type to deal with a lazy guy either. hes gonna get cut
I just don't get it. This kid has a bad rep about his work ethic. Ok, I don't know anything about him, and he has a whapping 18 catches. Why not take a chance on a up and coming WR like Matt Jones? He has experience, and was on a great pace last year on a weak Offense. I just don't get it.
because matt jones costs a lot more, and there are other teams pursuing him. You never know, Jones might fall into our lap any day now.
A bad work ethic has not scared Ryan before (Gholston). I think the thing that is turning the Jets off from signing him is the fact that he has only been consistent at being underwhelming.
well that and jones is one drug possesion charge away from a good long vacation during football season.
I don't understand how he has been underwhelming. The kid is entering what his 4th year, and was a QB coming in. How much time do you think it takes to switch from a QB to a WR? I am not going to look it up, but didn't he have something like 700 yards in 13 games last year. Gholston's own teamates are questioning his drive. I would much rather have a junkie that wants to play than a player that doesn't.
