The New York Jets have signed free agent S Cameron Worrell. The announcement was made by Jets' general manager Mike Tannenbaum. Worrell (5-11, 194/Fresno State/Merced County, CA), a five-year NFL veteran, spent the 2007 season with the Miami Dolphins, appearing in 12 games, making seven starts and collecting 56 tackles. He originally entered the NFL with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2003, appearing in 46 games in four seasons for the Bears and recording 20 tackles, two sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries on defense along with 45 special teams tackles. He also appeared in three postseason games in 2006, including Super Bowl XLI. In college, Worrell was a first-team All-WAC performer at safety at Fresno State. Well looks like Abram Elam is going to have nice competition this training camp. Nice Signing and good depth....
Yes! I've been waiting for a Fresno guy. Worrell hits like a truck and has a nose for the ball. He plays a lot like Rhodes - he hits, goes after the QB, and just flat out knows how to make plays. He's a classic hustle guy. He doesn't have all of the measurables, but he plays to the whistle and gets the job done. Great signing. I can see him beating out Elam and Smith for the safety spot opposite Rhodes. If he doesn't though, he'll be an excellent special teams player.
This is what I think of when I think of Cameron Worrell...Check out the :21 second mark. And check out the :48 second mark...
Cameron Worrell. Why not just sign Thaddeus Cambell from the snack bar at Hofstra, he can allow Moss a TD or two a game.
Why would I say anything bad about him? He dominated in college. 106 tackles, 5 INTs, 4 sacks, 2 FFs, and a TD as a senior at Fresno State. I said earlier that he lacks ideal size and ability, but he can play. He wasn't drafted, but he earned a spot on the Bears' roster. (The only undrafted rookie to make the Bears that year) By the way, Worrell wasn't the only guy in this league that got completely douched on by Randy Moss and Tom Brady. That happened to just about everyone in this league.
Unless it's a different Cameron Worrell, this guy blows. As long as he's no where near the field and never sees any playing time it's a great signing! Special teams at best. And when I say 'special' teams I'm refering to the Corky variety...
Look how pathetic his effort was on the 2nd one...Do you seriously think this guy could start, even if he didn't tear his ACL, he isn't a starter! He blows.
Funny you should say that. Every time someone mentions Worrell, all I can think of is that he reminds me of this...
umm i guess its not a bad thing to have depth but no way he beats out Smith or Elam for the S position alongside Rhodes
JETS PICK UP SAFETY WORRELL - ny post http://www.nypost.com/sports/jets/jets.htm BY MARK CANNIZZARO June 19, 2008 -- The JetsNew York Jets yesterday signed free agent safety Cameron Worrell, a five-year NFL veteran who spent the 2007 season with the Dolphins, playing in 12 games, making seven starts and 56 tackles. He was brought to Miami to be a special teams demon. He was a disappointment there. And then he was forced into the starting line up when we lost four safeties to IR. Clearly overmatched. However, as the season went on he actually started playing pretty well at safety. Fittingly, as it was Miami, he tore an ACL immediately thereafter.
Autrell Hawkins should win out the other saftey spot Worrell is competing for st spot and back up at best
