Jets signed the little brother of Adrian off of the Eagles practice squad. Don't know a lot about him but Dan Leberfeld was touting him as a great OLB prospect in a recent issue of Jets Confidential, and he also had a pretty good game against us in the preseason. Seems like a good rush OLB prospect...

The New York Jets have signed linebacker Marques Murrell from the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. The announcement was made by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Murrell (6'2", 246) was a two-time I-AA All-America first-teamer at Appalachian State, where he recorded 36 sacks and set a school record by forcing 18 fumbles. The Fayetteville, N.C., native helped the Mountaineers win two consecutive national championships (2005-06). He originally signed with the Eagles as an unrestricted free agent April 30, was waived Sept. 1, and was signed to the practice squad Sept. 3.

Murrell is the younger brother of Adrian Murrell, who rushed for 3,447 yards as a Jets RB from 1993-97

I thought OLB's in the 3-4 should be in the 260-270 range?? I could be wrong though...

In any case he seems to have some pass rush skills, which we're in dire need off.

any pass rush is better than no pass rush.

    will he play?

    Yup, that ought'a do it.

Can't not like the Murrell connection, but I also can't help but think he was signed to scratch the itch of fans looking for something - ANYTHING - to find encouraging this year.

Anyone find it just a little bit interesting that he's like a decade and a half younger than his older brother?

I like the signing. I don't know much about him, but if he's good enough to be on a team's practice squad and put up big numbers at a good non-bowl subdivision team, maybe he can provide a pass rushing spark. That sounds like what he is.

I know this is probably a pretty minor deal, but it shows that we're willing to bring in a pass rush specialist because I'm assuming that's what this kid is.

I agree with Sunday , sorry to piss on your chips Murrell2878 but ths just stinks of diversionary tactics.
However, if he does play good luck to him.

Perhaps, but don't we need a diversion right now anyway??

Can't hurt at all. What is wrong with trying to scour the landscape and see what is out there?? Maybe he turns into something.....maybe he doesnt. But it certainly is NOT a diversionary tac-tic.

This isn't some PR stunt. They wouldn't have signed him if they didn't think that maybe he could help out. Or at the very least find out if he can contribute. They obviously found something they like to at least take a look at him.

Just great. So now we finish 8-8 and lose out on a running back in the draft.
