How do we stand? IMO 1) Coles is a solid WR, not a flat out #1 receiver, but if healthy he can work. 2) McCarrens turned out to be a rather average #2 wr, hampered by some injury problems and some drops but he can be servicable. 3) Guessing it will be Cotchery, good hands, average speed likely to take the Chrebet-type role. 4) Is it Tim Dwight, probably. Perhaps we grab someone like Mike Hass(Oregon State) in the 3rd Round or take a shot at a player like Johnathan Orr(Wisconsin), Travis Wilson(Oklahoma) or Brandon Marshall (Cent. Florida) in the 4th or 5th round. What do you think?
the 3 we have are not TOP quality ive said it before we lack a #1 reciever we need a#1 with height and speed
Jets WR are weak by any NFL standards. We don't have a solid posession WR and we don't have a take it to the house WR. Bottom half of the league.
Hank Baskett (New Mexico) would be a fantastic pickup in the 4th round. 6-3 225, good athelete and has a great team attitude.
I believe that the first three are all solid posession receivers, it's the speed and home run threat that we don't have....
Coles might be a good possession WR but with the current group he clearly put a lot of pressure on himself to be the big play guy and he failed. McCariens is a big target and can catch the ball into his body. He doesn't use his body to extend for balls and because of it doesn't bring in nearly enough catchable balls to be considered a good possession WR. Not to mention the fact that he drops balls all over the place. Cotch looks like he is but hasn't really gotten the opportunity to prove it. If we had a true No. 1 Stud and moved Coles to No. 2 without the pressure to be a true No. 1 we could be very good. Right now we have a very 1 dimensional skill set with all 3 guys and it translates to below average at best.
I agree that we still need that true #1 and are very one dimensional. As for McCariens, everything I read states he was dealing with a lot of injuries last year so I'll give him a pass; he was pretty solid two years ago. Definitely a position that requires some upgrade though....
None of our receivers really scare a defense or take pressure off the rest of the offense. Coles is great for the tough 3rd down catch but as people have mentioned, we lack a big play guy. It's probably just as well because we also lack a QB to get the ball to a game breaking receiver, so having one on the payroll would probably be a waste of space for this year.
I agree, although I'd grab him with the comp pick at the end of the 3rd round. Big, sure handed, possession/red zone threat. The only real knock on him is his speed deep.
I'd like to see the Jets take Brandon Marshall from UCF in the 4th round.. He is 6'4" 229 LBS. His Stats from 2005 http://www.cstv.com/statistics/2005-2006/m-footbl/c-usa/ucf/player_174679.html http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/wr/brandonmarshall.html
He's really intriguing. The only reason I think Tangini may shy away from him however, is because he has (for lack of a better term) supposed character flaws.
I'm for Devin Aramoshadu of Auburn, he is one dimensional but with 4.3 speed it's the one dimension we really haven't had in a long time. He should be there in the 4th and IMO will be better than Baskett. I also liked the kid from Monmouth but he'll likely be a 7th or Undrafted FA.
Well, he runs like a 4-5 40 or something like that. Not blazing but not horrible either. Just out of curiosity, what did Keyshawn run coming out of college? I can't remember.
