Now we have filled all 10 spots Deion Barnes OLB Julian Howsare OLB / FB Jordan Williams DE Wesley Johnson C/G Taiwan Jones ILB Wes Saxton TE / HB Keon Lyn CB Walter Powell WR/KR Rontez Miles SS Tom Catapano DE
OLB Deion Barnes on practice squad, per source. Most of us called this one - 3 more added Julian Howsare, Jordan Williams, Wesley Johnson
What a shame if that's true.. I was thinking he would be our #3 wr this year. How did it go from that, to not even on the roster?
We could be seeing a new trend where GM's are flat refusing to take risks on players with concussion histories, even when they are apparently healthy and otherwise worthy of roster spots. If that's the case, I feel sorry for the athletes in the short-term, but it works to restore my faith in humanity.
Others we had who are possible additions at this point are (in no particular order) Shaq Evans WR / Walter Powell WR/KR (added subsequently) / Wes Saxton HB (added subsequently) / Durrell Eskridge SS / Keon Lyn CB (added subsequently) / Daryl Richardson RB And if he clears waivers Rontez Miles could be added
Deion Barnes got a lot of reps in preseason #50 and was signed as a priority ~UDFA OVERVIEW 2014: Appeared in 13 games, registering six sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss. 2013: Started 10 games. 2012: Appeared in all 12 games, with eight starts. 2011: Redshirted. PRO DAY RESULTS 40-yard dash: 4.95 seconds Vertical jump: 34 inches Broad jump: 9 feet, 4 inches Short shuttle: 4.32 seconds 3-cone: 7.26 seconds Bench press: 31 reps of 225 pounds ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Has adequate athletic ability and ability to rush with hand in ground or standing. Well-built frame after adding more muscle this past offseason. Will flash at times when asked to stunt, playing with forward lean and a feel for penetrating on the move. Sets up T/E twists with convincing charge upfield followed by quick stop and darting move underneath. Showed some signs of converting speed to power when rushing from an angle. WEAKNESSES Below-average strength at the point of attack. Was unable to fight his way off of blocks and get into the scrum. Very rarely gains an advantage through hand usage in run game or pass rush. Won't bend edge with speed very often. Shows no counter moves as a pass rusher and appears to stall out if initial rush falls short. Too content to stay blocked in run game. Might be forced into new role as outside linebacker in 3-4. DRAFT PROJECTION Round 7 or priority free agent BOTTOM LINE Base end in college who might lack the natural pass-rushing ability or strength at the point of attack to play defensive end in the NFL. Barnes appears to have enough athleticism to transition to 3-4 outside linebacker, but he must improve his hand usage and become more skilled as a pass rusher to fit into a 3-4 role. Jordan Williams was a DE @ Tennessee who the CS liked - was not overly productive in college
The entire PS is made up of undrafted rookies as it stands. Here's my prediction for final 4 spots WR Shaq Evans S Rontez Miles CB Keo Lyn QB ????
