i was just wondering what you guys think the Offensive playbook will be like.
Will it be like the Chargers since we got Shotty?

Not sure but I hope we put an emphasis on the passing game as opposed to the running game. I know a strong running game is the key to winning games, but I would like to see us set up the run with a few passes. I am sick of the predictable Jets..1st Down: Martin for 3 yards..2nd Down: Martin for 3 yards...3rd Down: Three yard pass to Coles..4th: punt. I mean have we ever passed more than 3 times in a row??

  3. The strength of this offense will be the short to medium passing game , regardless of who is at QB. Our OL has some decent athleticism suited for good pass protection and between Coles and Cotchery we have 2 quick guys at WR who can cut very well. Expect lots of slants, outs and ins.

The running game will surely struggle as Martin is coming back from a major injury and has lost alot of his quickness to the hole. Also, our Ol is going to need at least a year to gel into a decent run blocking unit. Brick, Mangold and Jones are all athletic types who havent developed the strength yet to truly be effective drive blockers. The result, long term, will be a zone blocking scheme that highlights their ability to get to the 2nd level. That will take at least a year to successfully implement. Expect struggles.

Whats it all mean? Most likely the same kind of Offense the Patriots ran when their OL was mediocre and Antowain Smith was their RB. Lots of quick passes, afew shots downfield, w/ some draws mixed in.

Look for a big-play WR or feature RB w/ speed to be added in the draft next year.

Look for two, possibly three playmakers in next year's draft, definately a RB and a WR, both taken pretty high.....

I think Schott is gonna take a lot of shots and experiment this season, especially if the team isn't any good

I dont think we can be anything like SD we dont have a explosive im-gonna-win-the-whole-dam-fucking-season-for-you running back or a great catching TE which are the two elements that the SD offence are based around. Im not sayin that marty wont try to lead the offence to become that in a few (3) years though.

I think we WANT throw to the TE a lot, even though we have Baker not Gates and try to free the WRs deep on some posts and skinny posts. I think we'll WANT to run a lot inside the tackles. I think we'll be very successful with throwing to the TEs, and I even think the WR play will be better than most expect, but I think Cedric is the key. He is much more of a hardnosed inside runner than Curtis is and the sooner they realize that the better.

Both Jolley (@ Miami) and Baker (@ KC) had one big game last year that oozed potential, but it'll be tough for either to have a season's worth of the same.
