Ok blast me if you will but in all reality Coles is not a #1 reciever.Hes undersized and does not have excel after the catch.A #1 reciever would be
6' 2"- 6' 4" and not afraid to go over the middle and have speed and elusiveness after the catch. The quaterback is only as good as the targets he has to throw to. Lacking a quality a tight end is another story for another day.

Probably need a healthy, accurate QB first. I feel Coles or Cotchery could be the #1.

I've been saying this for years. We havn't had a true #1 WR since Keyshawn.

Coles is definetly a #1, I just don't think McCareins is a #2. Maybe on a bad team, but we need another weapon to throw to.

Coles is on a fairytale ride we bring him back looking for a repeat of probably his career year. Moss moves on and has a career year.I like Coles as a #2 but not a #1 not in the nfl today.

LIke said above there is no need for a good big fast #1 reciever if we have no quaterback to get him the ball.

I completely agree that we lack a true #1. Coles is a possession receiver, he would be one of the better #2 receivers in the league. But we need a guy who can really separate from coverage in a deep route.

What does height have to do with being a #1 receiver? Hines Ward, Steve Smith and Santana Moss were all # 1 receivers for their teams last year.

If Brett Favre was brought in do you think he would put up numbers with our current wide recievers and tight ends?

I wouldn't mind Signing David Givens. I think he and Coles would be a nice 1-2 punch. With the right QB and a capable O-line they could be productive.

Um, no he just has had no QB to throw to him this year. Check out his stats from before this, they are #1 WR stats.

PLEASE tell me your joking? How the hell isn't he? We didn't have the "skill" at QB last yr. to even think about having a #1WR

Coles still fits your description of a true number one, except he is 5'11 7/8" and weighs in at 198lbs, which still is not even close to undersized. He is a #1, you can't base much of anything off of last years performance, as the whole team sucked due to injuries to key people. If anything J-Mac is really a number 3 and everyone knows it, so teams chose to blanket Coles. With a true number 2 posession type reciever Coles will shine again (I truely believe Cotchery can fill that role).
