According to Jake Steinberg of The Jets Blog, the New York Jets may hire Tim McDonald to be the new Secondary Coach, replacing Dennis Thurman, who will become the Defensive Coordinator. He is the current DB Coach of the Fresno State Bulldogs. McDonald is a NFL legend that was a six-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro for the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers. McDonald is also the father of T.J. McDonald, the arguably the top-ranked safety in the 2013 NFL Draft.
As far as I can tell, this would be a good hire. McDonald is credited for developing Phillip Thomas, an All-American safety and a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation's top defensive back. Furthermore, McDonald has a wealth of experience as a player. I'm also interested to see if the Jets draft his son, who would certainly fill a glaring defensive hole, with three of the team's five safeties either free agents or likely to be cut.
McDonald would have some big shoes to fill, as Thurman was able to turn a Darrelle Revis-less secondary into the #2 pass defense in the league.

Sounds good. Now, where do we find the next special teams coach?
