This is from the daily news.

I thought the Abe deal didn't go on the books until he signs it so I think this is wrong. Even without Abe though with the cut of Mawae and the expected savings of 6 mill maybe more on Chad's deal the Jets may end up around 20 mill under the cap when it's all said and done. Lets hope the cba gets done and if this article is right and we do save another 8 mill if Abe is traded then we will be serious players without question.

You know, everytime I read about whether it counts or not...theres always a couple writers that say it counts. If thats the truth..and we do trade him for a number 1....the Jets become pretty decent players in free agency.

I would love to know if its the truth or not.

if the jets will be under the cap, then maybe the jets could offer abe a contract. and then he'll be happy.

And to think... we were a mess. 26 million over? We were the laughing stock of the NFL. Now look at the possibilities!

I wish we could keep Abe long term. We probably could've if he didn't publically say he wanted out. He would be the best signing we could make.

lol...Your talking to the right guy...I do like Abe...but if traded for a number one..especially a top 15 pick....I could understand the Jets almost having to make that trade.

If you add up the savings...plus most importantly, where Abes head is at with the franchise, its best to move on..regretably.

So far, the new adminstration has done a great job in quickly turning the ship around. I absolutely love the new business attitude around Hofstra. The FO is not afraid to let go of players who have been a staple of this franchise (Mawae, Chad).

Yeah, major difference from us keeping guys like Mo Lewis, Marvin Jones, even Chrebet and Fabini 5 years past their primes during the Bradway era.

I totally agree--We could become even more involved in free agency if we restructure/cut Barrett and Robertson, both HUGE overpays by Bradway.

Barrett was paid more then he is worth, but Robertson was paid based upon his draft position. When it comes to stuff like that, the GMs hands are kind of tied.

Ok, but robertson's contract was unworldly. Like 50 mill or something. Thats way too much for any DT

Give Robertson a chance under the new regime. I bet he becomes a player.

This is an interesting developement... This has the potential to change things greatly. We might be able to get an NT or OG/T in FA. That would leave us with unlimited possiblities in the draft.

I still don't understand how there was a forty million dollar swing on the cap... with all the cuts / restructuring plus ten mill (pending CBA) it seems too good to be true. Maybe Tanny is a capable cap guy afterall.

We will still have to pay what? 5 first day picks. Thats a nice chunk of change there, including possibly 2 first rounders.

Excellent, but remember we should conserve 8-10 million dollars for our draft picks too...

see this is where i think people start to get there hopes up. people look at it and say, 'well were going to be 20 mil under, so let's sign some free agents'. i think we should work on keeping the younger players that are or will be in their prime withing the next couple of years. Abe is a perfect example, right now he's ticked off because he doesn't have stability. If the jets have the money they should sign him to a long term deal. Why end up drafting another player to fill his spot that will take probably three years or so to develop anyways. I would only say trade him if we feel like Thomas is ready to step up, and I think most of us agree here he is not. I think the jets are in a tough position because the players we have are mostly in going into their second and third years or are too old. But if we have the money, give abe a contract. Theirs only a few positions I see the jets should try to address in free agency. Oline, Veteran QB, and possibly a CB like Reggie Howard for some stability. We don't need Shaun Alexander, Edge, a big name wide receiver or QB. The jets are in rebuilding mode either way, so trying to patch things up for one year will only hurt the development of players that are already here. I would expect a better season than last year because hopefully we won't have the injuries we had then. Also because some of the rookies made improvements and we should improve on defense even more. On the notion of using the players that we've got, I seriously think Cotchery should have shot at number two wide reciever, between him and Justin McCariens. J-Mac did drop some balls, but i think so did Cotchery, I just thin ktheir has to be some dividing of passes (eg. pats) so hopefulyl we see the ball get in everybody's hands, to give some SURPRISE to some defenses. A word Herm hardly knew the meaning of. On another note of the offense, It will be interesting to see how BJ Askew plays out, hopefully he plays well, I think he has alot of potential, but it will be hard for him to match the overall good player that Sowell was. Anyways, just my thoughts. Good luck to all in the off-season.
