i know i might take some heat from all the chad lovers out there but i think jets management might find themselves in a big dilemma this coming offseason. or perhaps two offseasons from now.

lets face it, none of us, including mangini thought chad would make us competitive this year. in fact, deep down inside, mangini and t-baum prob thought an average season would make the decision to go with a different QB rather easy.

so now chad is playing well and he proves that he can still play in this league. but is he really the answer for this team? is he really the guy that is going to get us to the elite level? jets will be active in the draft/ free agency over the next few years to get the playmakers they need. they have a solid core right now to build around but they need skill players and they take some time to develop.

so my question is when do go to clemens? do we wait a few years like the chargers did and hopes he steps right in and performs at a high level? i think that chad has put a severe roadblock in mangini's plans and i am curious to see how it shakes out..

The guy is 3-3 on a team that was supposed to go 2-14...with no run blocking, no run D, and no RB..Gimme a break!

I think its one of those good problems. It might be a tough decision though. The think about the chargers is that they were well situated for a QB change. Good lines. Great rbs. Great defense.

I don't consider it a roadblock. I would bet you they felt the contrary many of us did about Chad. That's why they didn't use a first on a QB, but instead took KC in the 2nd.

As long as he can stay on teh field and do the job, Chad is our QB. Kellen can wait.

Considering a new QB doesn't step in in one day and take over, I don't think it's a problem. Chad is already 30, you get a good guy to learn behind him for a year or two and go from there. Maybe Chad stays as a veteran backup/insurance policy. Until someone takes his job, I don't see any reason to worry about him. Just keep him healthy and let him win games.

What are u talking about. My view of this is Mangini was hoping Chad would be successful. Chad is the answer for this team right now. He has been the answer for years now. Unfortunately the rotator cuff issue came into play. I dont know what u got against Chad. Hes a veteran that makes good decisions out there on the field. Everybody on the offense believes in him and hes making this team a contender. Yet you want Clemens to play? Did u see him play in the preseason? He's definitely not ready to play a real NFL game. There's nothing wrong with sittin on the sideline and watching how the game is supposed to be played. If you dont believe in this philosophy look at Steve Young, Pennington, Brady, and other QBs who spent the first part of their careers on the bench learning from the veterans who started before them.

Chad spent 2+ yrs on the bench before getting in a game. Let Clemens sit and learn the offense before we think about replacing Penninton.

30 years old is not old at all for a QB, especially for they style of Qb Chad is. Its not like he depends on his legs at all and has never had a strong arm. I can see him being an effective NFL QB until hes 38-39.

I want clemens to sit AT LEAST 2 more years.

I would love Chad to stay with us as an assistant or something once he retires.

Yeah, Pennington is playing well, he deserves to be the starter here as long as he is healthy. He's proven that he is a top tier QB, now he just needs to prove he can stay healthy for a whole season.

I'm all for trading Clemens For A Toaster Oven

What dilemma is there as long as Chad is healthy?

Egh.... I see your point, but i wouldnt say all that. "Effective" means throwing for nearly 3000 yds and at 39 thats a far stretch. Im pretty sure we'll have Pennys replacement by then, too.

Let KC sit on the bench and let a Matt Schaub-like market develop for him in the worst case scenario.

Chad is 30 but he sat the first two years, so he's got the wear and tear of a 28 year old (unless this is cancelled out by his injuries...but how the hell would I know?).

Tossing Ramsey sounds great to me. Let it be Chad, Clemens, and Brad Smith. Start Kellen Clemens when it's his time. Don't force it.

Chad Pennington and what QB we have a year or 2 from now is the least of my worries. Cemens still needs to learn and adapt to the speed of the game.

My big worry now is our defense. Man, we are out-right horrible on D. It is not our CS either. I do think we should opt more for the 4-3 to get us through this year, but we need some beef up front. We need a monster 3- 4 NT, a good pass rushing DE, and 1 more difference maker at LB at a minimum.

They say when you lose a year to injury it adds a year on to the end of your career. By my estimates that means Chad will be playing until he's nearly 50...

Honestly, I thought he would be back playing at a high level, never doubted it. I do however want to see him go a full 16 game season. When he does that, we can revisit these conversations.
