NEW YORK JETS SIGN FITCH TO RESERVE/FUTURE CONTRACT HEMPSTEAD, NY ? The New York Jets announced they have signed DT Zarnell Fitch to a Reserve/Future contract. The announcement was made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum. Fitch, originally signed to the Jets? practice squad on December 27, is a native of Spencer, Oklahoma and played two years (2004-2005) at TCU. In his two-year career, he recorded a total of 34 tackles with two interceptions, a forced fumble and a sack. Fitch is the sixth player the Jets have signed to a Reserve/Future contract. The other signed players are: DE Darrell Adams, CB Alphonso Hodge, TE Joe Kowalewski, DT Keyonta Marshall and DT Matt McChesney. Press release courtesy of NY Jets Media Dept.
I don't fully understand "Reserve/Future" contracts or the importance or irrelevance, as the case may be, but it's good to know we're moving and not sitting on our hands. I love the job Tanny and Mangini are doing.
Several Jets veterans will be released before March. The most likely candidates: RB Kevan Barlow, RB Derrick Blaylock, WR Justin McCareins and QB Patrick Ramsey. -- New York Daily News http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/scorecard/01/09/truth.rumors.nfl/index.html
I agree with keeping JMac, unless we get money back towards the cap for releasing him. If, actually when, we release Ramsey, I think we'll just pick one up in like the 6th or 7th round. Kellen and Chad are the clear 1 & 2 going into camp. We just need someone to hold the clipboard.
agreed...i think next year we see more of brad smith, and perhaps from a better deep threat receiver in the draft
I wouldn't sign anybody. Just use Smith as the #3. It gives them flexability to add another key position of need if they just put Smith as the #3.
hes due a 3 million dollar bonus, you dont give a 3 million dollar bonus to your third receiver. See ya justin, dont let the door hit you on the ass on the way out!
Is that true? I think if he has a roster bonus they can't just decide to redo it or take a paycut. I believe they have to release him first (making him a UFA) and then they can try to hash out a new contract. I'm not really sure though. I know it is just semantics but I'm curious how these things really work....
i saw somewere that this alphonso hodge character runs in the 4.3 range. anybody know anything 'bout this guy if hes just a fast SOB or does he have some potential?
I'm all for having Brad Smith as the #3 WR. I just feel it would be good to keep J-mac, and just have him be the #4 WR. Through the last few games of the season J-Mac was making an "impact" with some big catches. I mean, does anyone expect Tim Dwight back and having legitimate playing time? I'm not knocking him down, but I'm speaking realistically, and asking as a straight question.
I can't see Dwight in a Jets uniform next year. JMac may or may not be, but Dwight has to be gone. If he isn't Mangini isn't as smart as we thought he was. And he is.
ill drink to that....ol alligator arms has got to go...he shows absolutely no effort to go after the ball....and as a QB its quite offending to have a WR that shows that kind of effort to catch a ball...the only reason i beleive he played so much this season is because he was our tallest target which made him a decent downfield threat...notice how many of his passes were 30 yards downfield...hes easily replaceable...brad smith and a FA/Draft choice will take over...and do a much better job....JMAC was a slouch
