We're hearing in the wake of the Jets' far-closer-than-expected game against the Patriots a belief in some circles that the Jets are far more effective with veteran Chad Pennington at quarterback than they are with Kellen Clemens, a second-year, second-round draft choice. "People are questioning the decision to go with Clemens," a league source told us on Monday night. The thinking is that the Jets are using Clemens because he was selected by G.M. Mike Tannenbaum and coach Eric Mangini and, thus, is "their guy." If so, it's even more likely that the Jets will try to ship Pennington out of town after the 2008 season. Pennington is under contract through 2011, and his base salary spikes to $4.8 million next year. If there's going to be a trade, Pennington will most likely have to agree to a new deal with his new team. The last two games of the 2007 season could be an opportunity for Pennington to catch the attention of a franchise that is looking for a new quarterback come 2008. Clemens sustained a rib injury and a shoulder injury early in Sunday's game against the Patriots. There's also extremely unconfirmed talk that Clemens has a broken rib and, possibly, a punctured lung. But that, at this point, is pure rumor.
We were 1-7 when we switched..... We're 2-4 since then.... It's not like we benched a world beater.... People (media included) need to get over Chad and realize that this franchise is trying to move forward....
Shade, the longest tenured troll in TGG history... Your 'contributions' in Chad/Kellen threads, is on the level of Tai Mai Shu's posting a picture of a rat 14 times in every Jets/Pats thread
Being a Jets fan in Buffalo, I know first hand that this is no rare situation. The same thing is happening in Buffalo. It's very hard to finally give up on a man that has shown flashes of brilliance, flashes of decency, and then more than wanted amounts of bad play. We hope the change fixes everything, but at the same time, you can't just alienate the young guy because he isn't much better than the old guy.
I never realized that every post on a Jets message board was supposed to be a novel. Silly me. All of you wanna-be sports writers can write lengthy diatribes about the state of the Jets. I am just a simple fan. How dare a fan post on a fan site, crazy. So I defend probably the best jet QB since Joe Willie, certainly the most successful. Sue me. People can write whatever they want about Chad. Nobody counts the characters of the post. Stick up for Chad and question the "Rocket Armed" Wonder boy and you are a "troll".
Many people defend Chad Pennington and/or denounce Clemens, but they give reasons... You say, 'Clemens sucks' or something to that effect, in EVERY SINGLE thread on the subject
Pennington relies on the short quick timing pattern and everybody knows this. On sunday you could see the Pats secondary sitting about seven yards back waiting for their opportunities. A number of times they were half a step away from jumping the routes for picks. If the footing had been better I'm pretty sure they would have had a couple of those picks
Pennington has clear limits. What you see is what you get, and you arent building a team around him. You could... Clemens is all upside. And would also benefit from sitting on the sideline after having been in for while. Personally, I think it would have been better to play Clemens from Baltimore through Cincinatti, let Pennington heal, then play the tougher schedule. I think a First time player at QB benefits exponentially from getting in, then getting out and observing for a spell.
Chad - super accurate, super slow release Kellen - not super accurate, super quick release I think we've learned that Chad isn't taking any team to the superbowl unless he never gets hit. We're still trying to figure out if Kellen can do it.
^I didn't question putting him in, it was time to see what we had. After seeing him play, I am questioning if he is "the guy". I don't think he is, I think we have to start thinking about getting a QB in here.
Clemens has been in the offensive system for under 2 years now and has barely started in the NFL. Lets give him a bit more time to see what we have here.
