http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/395975 he has got the size for 3-4 would probably be a good backup Free agent CB Will James will meet with the Jets next week. James was an ineffective nickel back in Philadelphia before losing the gig to Joselio Hanson, but he'll draw interest because he's big and talented. The Jets also have visits with LB Mario Haggan, RT Shane Olivea, CB Randall Gay, FS Eugene Wilson, and OL Damien Woody for the coming week.
Excellent special teamer. I'm not excited about Will James/Peterson whatever. Didn't he suffer some kind of debilitating injury? I don't think he's the same young guy from the Giants. -X-
Averages 1/16 of a sack per game. I'm comfortable with David Bowens, Brad Kassell and hopefully Victor Hobson as our primary back-ups.
Seriously, though! He changed his name legally from "Will Peterson" to "William James." I don't know why, but that just strikes me as weird.
Maybe "fresh start with the Eagles, fresh name?" Why did Maurice Drew add the Jones, while we're at it?
Haggan wouldn't play OLB here. He'd likely move inside in the 3-4. At 6-3 263 he would be a big presence at ILB. As xjets2002x said, he's an excellent special teams player and would make a big impact there as well. I wouldn't expect this to be a big signing moneywise by any stretch. Shane Olivea is my choice at RT over Damien Woody. He never played that well since coming to Detroit from New England and isn't even a natural fit at RT. I really hope this doesn't get done. Randall Gay is now a Saint, but Eugene Wilson would be a huge pickup for this secondary. And with Mangini's connection to the New England secondary in particular, this should have a solid chance of going down. Will James/Peterson is not an upgrade over Drew Coleman, Hank Poteat, David Barrett or Justin Miller. He simply fills in as a #3 CB. We need a player to potentially come in and start. This would be a depth signing, which is something this team is far from short with at CB.
I agree completely. Haggan would have an outside chance of starting at ILB if we signed him, and he would come cheap for AT LEAST great depth. Olivea or Maurice Williams (who has just recently been rumored to visit) are much better options than Woody as far as the RT position go. Wilson I don't love as much though. He is good, but not great, and would be an improvement over Elam, but wouldn't be a "huge pickup." He would help, but not in any humongous way. And Will James wouldn't help at all. I like Miller and Poteat more than him anyway.
