Let me first start off by saying that I love Coles and Cotchery. However Coles has clearly lost a step and Cocthery I think is a very good number 2 but not really a number 1.

What the Jets lack and have been lacking for a while now is a true number 1 WR. Not just a number 1 WR though but a tall and physichal WR that can "go up and get it". They havent had one since Keyshawn left. They tried with McCareins but that didnt work out. In the off season they really need to go out and get a bigger WR that has speed.

I havent really looked at the draft yet so i'm not going to sit here and act like its easy to get a guy like that but they certainly need to try.

Coles has lost a step. Great hands, but I said earlier in the season he has slowed down a bit.

No shit. This is as enlightening as the "Jets need a starting safety" thread.

Sorry for being a dick, but I am. Seriously, no shit.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I think that thread about the Jets needing a starting safety is worthy of a pulitzer...

I don't think that's a huge priority for us. It would definitely help us in the endzone a lot, but CB and safety are bigger concerns right now. Maybe Marcus Henry will turn out.. if not, we should be looking for a late round draft pick or a free agent.

I agree. The bottom line is that WR is THE DEEPEST position on our team.

Its also, by modern NFL standards, the SLOWEST position on our team as well. We need speed folks. We already have finesse..

Why can't Clowney get off the practice squad?

He isn't on the practice squad.

He can't get off the inactive list because we already have 5 WRs active every week. Coles/Cotch are going to start before him. Smith/Wright are special teams stand outs. Stuckey is apparantly going to be active over Clowney for one reason or another.

Clowney needs to learn to be a ST stud to get a shot, or maybe learn a couple of stupid WR tricks.

He does have a "stupid WR trick": getting open downfield.

That's not a "stupid WR trick". Can he flip the ball to Cotchery? Or run an option?

We do have good depth at WR and Coles and Cotchery catch pretty much everything throw their way. But they are SLOW amd are not gamebreakers. They need someone else out there that is fast but is also a tall target.

Now I by no means am saying we need to get rid of these guys but we need to add to them. Cotchery is a very good number 2 WR. Coles is starting to get up there in age and is starting to break down. I would consider maybe moving Coles. I could think of one AFC East team who would love to get him :finssuck:

I think Coles is probably the best candiate to move since he costs the most money and would probably be making to much money for a number 3 WR. I'd move him and then look for a big WR in the draft or via FA.

I'm not really ready to ponder another receiver at this point. There are 4 games left and we need to figure out how to get all those tight ends involved and we do have taller receivers. Wallace wright and Brad smith have been contributing on special teams and now they need to fill the receiver rotation.
As they say , this is what we have to work with , lets get it done.

Cotchery maybe. But Coles? C'mon. Half the jump balls thrown his way end up being intercepted. Whether or not it's a good pass he still has to go after to it and hopefully catch it. I've seen him not even go after catchable balls and I've seen him let the defender Intercept passes he should've caught (ie. Cromartie)

That said, Coles is good. But not the WR that any big-time offense should rely on.
