A Mac hire? He used to work for the Texans. Marshall, 58, had been in the college ranks from 2009-14. Previously, he had six seasons of NFL experience with the Houston Texans andCleveland Browns
The Packers have had terrible talent there. Not really sure of that works for or against this guy, so we'll see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He was only an assistant but hopefully him being here helps if they decide to go after Bulaga. He's has some injuries but he is only 25 and I think put him at RT and move Giacomini inside, fixes that side of the line for a bit.
Anyway, Bulaga could be a good hire. He would be a definite upgrade, but has serious injury downside. As for the hire, The Packers have drafted very well in the middle rounds with ol, but not as well with higher picks. Overall the talent is very good when healthy. So it could be a real good hire. We will see though.
I don't know much about this specific guy but I do know they worked wonders there in GB coaching up that offensive line. They were put in a tough place with lots of injuries and the staff did some great work. I was listening to Sirius during the GB/SEA game and the Seattle crew was praising the GB OL coach up and down. McCarthy submitted his name for the assistant coach of the year award and they thought he should win it. (Mr. Todd Bowles won) I understand this guy we hired is his assistant, the assistant OL coach, and not exactly what they were referring to but he had to have some effect on that unit too so I am encouraged.
Mike McCarthy emphasizes OL, in particular designing the protections for Aaron Rodgers and making sure the linemen know them week to week, during game planning. The OL hasn't always been great in GB, but McCarthy has always seemed to be able to do more with less, as well as plug and play rookies and street FAs so as not to get Aaron Rodgers killed. Getting the protections down has been a weakness here for years. It looks like Mangold is calling them all the time. When you have a real QB like Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning, they are the ones responsible for making adjustments at the line.
