https://thejetpress.com/2020/10/16/ny-jets-tanking-trevor-lawrence/ I actually don't believe the "sources" but this definitely deserves its own thread. There will be more comments from the Johnson Brothers and others in coming weeks and months.
If the plan actually is to tank for the #1 pick, then for the first time in Jets history, they are flawlessly executing a plan.
Lol. I wish this was true. We aren't trying to tank. We are worse than any other team in the NFL with a disaster of a coach. Players already checked out. We scored zero points against a not so special Dolphins team. We are beyond putrid.
Do you remember over the Summer JD publically saying he promised Sams parents he would protect their kid by shoring up the OL?? Well thats all he tried to do obviously He never said , promised, Sam gets RA back andl pulls all the stops on offense for him So like Monopoly they are giving Darnold a pass but its back to Go without collecting $200
Yeah it’s just McAfee’s “source” at this point. I don’t see many reports to back it up because if the Jets truly were tanking it might get them in trouble if that news got out. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the organization got investigated as the team may be one of the worst in decades and makes no effort to change up what they’re doing..
If Sam and MImms becomes a dream connection, and we win a few games as a result, is that an soj situation or intriguing as king as Gase is a goner?
Hell yes, we're tanking. We have ZERO wins and finally in control of our own destiny to get the #1 pick. The owner & GM would have to be idiots not to tank when you have a true franchise QB at #1 sitting there at a first-year QB price.
Hey come on, this is the Jets. The minute we really start tanking the bottom will fall out and we'll go 4-12 instead with a couple of outrageous wins over the next 8 games and then a totally inexplicable 2-0 finish against teams that have already locked their place in the standings by then. This team doesn't know how to do anything right. It's part of the culture now. See a problem - make it worse.
This is painfully true. I just have no faith in this team to do the right thing. It feels like we win 2 meaningless games in December every year.
100% this - the tanking rumour just allows the organisation to look a little less incompetent like there is a plan
The problem with tanking is that the players need to protect themselves from injury and also need to play well for their next contracts. Also - no one likes to lose. Do you think that Marcus Maye wants to play poorly and get a 2 year/$5 million total deal on his next contract? Whether that's with us or not? Now, the organization can do everything they can to handcuff their team to lose games. Keep players out longer than they should out of what they'll call caution (Becton, Darnold, etc.), trade away veteran pieces, call a conservative game. And it looks like we're doing most of that. The issue so that no one on this team minus honestly Becton and maybe Q. Williams has 3+ years left with this organization that we can afford to not constantly evaluate them. I want to see Perine get as many touches as possible, lots of snaps for Mims, Clark, Zuniga, Davis, etc. so we can figure out who should stay and who should go. The Dolphins did this last year. Why the fuck is Gore getting carries?
Wow, I have an issue with this article. If in fact this is the case then Gase has be in on this. How else can you have the guarantee that they'll lose every game? What happens if he wins 1-2 before the season is over? Do they fire him, lol? And if he's in on this, he'll be the coach in 2021. Would Trevor want any part of this?
The Jets are the type of franchise like the Knicks to botch a full tank operation late season. I say get rid of everyone that is quality with big cap implications and punt on 3rd downs lol
No doubt. And it does damage beyond just draft order. Ownership/team marketing will use any mickey mouse excuse they can to avoid rock bottom & having to make meaningful change beyond just coach/GM. They always view meaningless December wins as an upward trend & a sign of things to come. The only thing these fools will understand is bottoming out
The big difference this year is we don't have teams at the end of our schedule, at the moment, that should be resting starters. Rams, Browns and Pats in that order are our last three games--those teams will be fighting for playoff hopes at that point.
Thats what they want people to belive to save themselves the embarassment. They dont want to be the worst team in NFL history....Which they are on there way to being.
There also should be less starter resting due to more playoff spots and only one bye. There could be a lot of seeding movement in week 17.
He shouldn’t be, he should be behind the entire practise squad and UDFA at this point. Gase is going to prioritize his short-term contract over the Jets’ long-term future while ever he’s in a job. Douglas needs to move on these vet pieces so that they can’t be selected or move on from Gase.
