http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2007/02/daboll_to_jets.html Very good hire, IMHO. Pisses me off, but yet another good move by Mangini & Co.
Great, another bald guy with a gotee. Nice write up on the Pats website, seems he was pretty influential with Branch. http://www.patriots.com/team/index.cfm?ac=coachbio&bio=11753 How did we get him? Was his contract up in NE and he decided to move? Just curious, did they try to keep him?
First of all, it can't be a lateral move, right? Or is that just in some people's contracts? Second, is this insurance in case little Schotty moves on in the next year? Good move, any way you look at it. +for us = -for them.
Well, he was highly thought of by Belichick and some of the media here. Michael Holley, who wrote, "Patriot Reign" (an insider look at the Pats, he was embedded with them for a season) said he has all the make-up of a HC. In addition, look what he did with our crap-bag WR's, lol. The only knock on him from my idiot brain is that he severely failed to do anything with WR Chad Jackson (who seems to be a certified dummy, so can I really blame Daboll?) and Doug Gabriel. I see this as a plus for the Jets. My gut feeling is that Schotty will get a serious offer next year to be a HC with all the turnover now, and that Mangini will groom Daboll to be your next OC. Just a hunch, nothing of substance to go on though.
What's wrong with that? Not all of us have to have a head full of hair to be great  Yours truly, the sexy genius.
Great so BB will get pissed that we "messed" with his team again... DW, nice to see you around and i think your absolutely correct with Daboll being molded into the future OC
 You'd fit right in on this coaching staff hiker, a couple of the other recent hires have the same look...
Thanks for the insight, buddy. So what players are you chowderheads pinpointing for possible selections in the draft?
So if this is a lateral move then BB would have had to give consent to the move? How else can he make that move?
He was rumored in some circles to be the heir apparent when Weis left, so there may be something to it. I'm not so sure Schotty will be going anywhere next year though, as there will be some top candidates with experience ahead of him (Schott senior, Cowher, Parcells, Mora, Green, etc.) but who knows....
Well, seeing as though our needs are LB, DB & WR, we go TE in rounds 1-5 and then OT in the final rounds.
1. Yes he was, but he was one of many. So was Scarneccia, McDaniels, Davidson, etc.. He never was a frontrunner, but that doesn't mean he wasn't qualified. 2. In this day and age of the NFL, since when does experience mean anything in the hiring of a coach, lol.
 You guys sure have taken your share of TE's in the past 5 years or so...and w/ Graham an apparent FA...ya never know..
I don't understand where Daboll is going to fit in on the staff. We already have a WR coach, and a good one in Noel Mazzone. Cotchery said Mazzone was a key to his breakout season.
Usually those type assistants change positions all the time. H e could be the RB coach, or move somewhere else.. who knows.
Mangini hasn't been shy about doubling up across the coaching ranks (DL, OL, etc.), so he appears to be of the school that you can't have enough talented guys on the team to supplement the teaching and fill holes when coaches are plucked away. I thought Mazzone would be a natural OC when Schotty Jr. moves to an HC position, but maybe Daboll is a better strategist/game plan designer and Mangini is trying to give him exposure to the system before Schotty Jr. leaves. He may not want to force a new system on Clemens should Kellen be in position to lead the team in '08.
