the jets had a hell of a yr but they went way too conservative after taking the 17-6 lead sanchez was throwing the ball well and once they got the lead they went all run even when greene went out it was a great yr but the jets let a very winnable game go schottenheimers conservative game plans have killed this team for 4 yrs now
The game plan was not conservative. The 17-6 lead allowed us to impose our gameplan on them. Run the ball, eat the clock, keep Manning off the field, I love you guys who come on when we lose and say we were too conservative, Schotty has to go. Nobody was saying that last week against San Diego. We never wanted to get into a shootout with this team. Losing Greene was huge.
Losing Jenkins an Washington. Playing tough football all the way through, and being banged up the way we were with virtually no depth, it's amazing that we've gotten this far.
Strickland going down was critical; the Jets would've needed to get extremely lucky to hold Manning at bay with Ihedigbo and Coleman on the field so often. The defense cost the Jets this game, not the offense.

The Jets DID NOT give it away. Besides key injuries (Strickland and Greene) the Colts played great in the 2nd half. I don't see how you can blame the Jets D or O.
The defense can be blamed because the secondary was getting picked apart, and nobody aside from Revis can cover one on one. The pass rush wasn't effective at all, either. At the end of the day, however, the Colts are just a better team than the Jets. We would've needed some breaks to win the game, and we didn't get them.
The 2 biggest plays were settling for a FG after getting that fumble, and letting Manning march down the field in 2 plays inside 2 minutes. If we get a 1st down instead of settling for that long FG that we made, we run time off the clock and the colts don't get the ball back. 17-6 at the half. But sports is a game of what if's.
Agreed, the injuries hurt, but the best team today won. Manning hacked us up, if it was anyone else, I would be pissed. We are a young team and most folks had us 8-8. Our season ended today in the AFCG and we made a good game of it. I'm hurt but I'm not hanging my head.
True...what if the Colt's scored TD's on both of the initial red zone possesions...but "what if"...The better team won and the Jets played a good game...the Colts passed, short and long and ran the ball better than the Jets...As a matter of fact the Colts D played better and O played better in every facet of the game... It was no way the Jets could have won this game. Peyton was flawless and so was Sanchize...
there is a major difference between this AFCCG and 1998. Our QB is a rookie and not a grizzled vet in one of the last 2-3 years of elite level play. in 1999 Vinny was poised for an elite year, then his achiles exploded on one of our first plays from scrimmage. The 1998's team had a two year window to win it all 1998 and 1999 and once parcells left we were screwed. here in 2009 Rex is going no where anytime soon. Sanchez hasnt even begun to reach his prime and our defense will only get better as Rex adds more of his guys and the guys get even more comfortable with the system. Our offensive core is incredibly good and incredibly young. We have the best defensive player in all of football, oh and did I mention he hasnt hit his prime yet either? This cores window to win is probably about 5 years. That is a damn long time in the NFL.
Biggest problem vs Colts was the Shon Greene injury and poor play by CB's Lowery and Lito. We need a pass rusher too. Gholston never materialized all season.
I wouldn't say that the Jets gave it away. In my mind the Jets had to play their "A" game to win the game. They obviously didn't bring their best, but the other guys get paid too. The "D" couldn't get off the field and the "O" couldn't take full advantage with the penalties at inopportune times, Greene getting hurt, and Feeley missing two field goals. Without Strickland the Jets backfield couldn't make plays and by and large Manning was on target for most of the day. In my mind everybody has a bit part in the loss, but that's usually the case in sports. The silver lining is that Sanchez came up big in this game and hopefully the future is bright for the Jets. If the Jets can get Leon backm and pick up a slot receiver then the "O" can be much more balanced. The big thing for next year is that hopefully the Jets will continue to have strong OL play. The Jets have been incredibly lucky to have the OL intact for two straight years, so hopefully that continues or the backups that they have (plus what comes through the draft) will be able to produce next season as well.

The fact we weren't conservative is actually what cost us a bit. We kept blitzing Manning but barely touched him in the second half. Once Manning gets comfortable back there, it's like a Korean kid playing Street Fighter in an arcade..he will not lose...and you will lose many quarters trying to beat him.
The Jets lost to possibly the best QB to ever play the game. Not to mention they didn't catch any breaks today like the past 2 games. Last week Nate missed 3 fgs which helped get the Jets get here. Today Feely misses 2 kicks that helped close the door. Think about if you have those 6 points...
This is absurd. The Jets didn't give it away. The Colts took it. They outplayed us. Without the injuries, we'd have had a good shot at it, but injuries are a part of the game. The Colts played lights out for 60 minutes and were the better team. It really is that simple.
