so its the offseason, and im tired of seeing "were going 16-0" threads.... so....when did you become a jet fan, and/or why? i started getting into the jets when i was in 7th or 8th grade....but watched them and the giants every week....around 89.....the jets were so much fun to watch when i was a kid, and the giants were way boring.... whats your when and why?
Growing up in Manhattan, with parents who didn't care about sports, I was left to make the choice myself: Jets or Giants. I was 6. I liked the color green better at the time, so Jets won out.
as far back as I can remember...i think I was 4 or something....back in 89 and yes the Jets were no fun to watch until I saw Keyshawn come to the Jets in 96
I was a huge sportsfan at an early age thanks to my older brothers. I had a shoebox full of joe namath football cards, newspaper clippings etc I was 12 when we won the superbowl & taped it on a reel to reel. relax, I stopped staulking him a few years back so I have him to thank or blame fo rbeing an avid jetfan
My Dad has had season tix since '68 or '69 and I was born in '71, so pretty much ever since I could comprehend football. We grew up in Brooklyn, not sure if that makes a difference on why he was a Jets fan and not a Giants fan.
I always figured that if a jet and a giant got into a fight, the jet would kick the giant's ass...jets have missiles and fly really fast. It also helped that my stepfather is a giants fan and back then i'd do anything not to be like him. Really got into NFL after I started playing football in 8th grade.
My Uncle would always tell me stories about Joe Namath, he had a picture of him in his office. I always saw the green and white and loved the colors. I also had this book that immortalized the 1969 Super bowl. Even my father, who is a diehard gmen fan, thought Namath was the coolest. All of this coalesced into me thinking the Jets were the coolest. My uncle introduced me to the team and I've been a fantatic ever since. Lets say about 1992. I was a little kid and I loved the jets ever since then. My family hates going to the stadium, so I've only been to a handful of games. Now that I'm older and I have a real job and money and a car, thats going to change.
I think 03 was the year I really started paying attention. I think they went 6-10 that year. Yeah I liked the fact that I was the only jets fan in my entire school.
ah ive always loved the jets idk i just kinda picked a team.....kinda funny considering i live in a house full of bills fans
1970. I was 9 and my father and uncles were Jets fans. We went out to Shea anyway to see Mets games so following the Jets was not a major hassle even though we lived in Washington Heights.
Joe Namath was my idol at age 5 and I loved the color green - that's all it took. I remember at the time being all exicted when Joe made that guest appearance on the Brady Bunch.
From brooklyn originally moved down to miami at age 10 didnt really like football though at the time but people didnt really play basketball like they did in New York. Played football more here and so i began to like it.I like teal but its kinda gay on a football uni so i couldnt be a Dolphin fan saw the jets beat the dolphins one day so i was like fuck it why not them.
Had a friend in highschool he was a twin. one was a giants one was a jets fan, when ever I went to his house on mondya a bunch of kids would be talking about the Jets and giants, I of course didnt watch football at the time and thought it was boring. I started watching so I could be in the monday conversations, and the rest is history... Been a Jet fan Since 07', wonder why I waited so long.
I was a Life-Long Falcons fan...lived and died with them through Bob Lee,Claude Humphrey,Steve Bartkowski,William Andrews, Lynn Cain, Capt. Coocko, Buddy Curry and all the rest....the ownership floundered in trying to reach "the next level" by firing the winningest coach and GM the team had ever had.........then they hired Glanville. I kinda lost touch. He was great as a DC..invented the "Grits Blitz" ......but as a head coach, that guy was a freakin idiot! Kinda like Buddy Ryan I guess.....I really didn't have a favorite team after that until around 96 - 97 when I started noticing a team that went back to their roots....I had always respected Parcells and just liked the way Chrebet and Johnson and then Testeverde played the game. Been a Jets fan ever since! GO JETS!!!!!
Third generation Jets fan. My son loves the Jets and another Future Jets fan on the way! My dad has been bringing me to Jets games since I was so young I didnt know what the hell was going on. Later in my youth I drifted away from watching and rooting (Hit puberty and chased ass for many years) got married and re-kicked my past time love. Iv been solid every game every year since 95 - present! Till death do us part.:jets:
