So many holes to fill in,,,this will be interesting to see how our new GM handles this. I guess we will see this week what our REAL cap situation is .
According to The Star-Ledger, six teams have already touched base with DeVito's agent this weekend. If DeVito is going to stick around, the Jets are going to have to pay a premium for a solid starter.
You should watch the guy play before you evaluate him. (I'm just hoping for your sake that you haven't because if you have, that's a pretty bad post)
You forgot Dedrick Epps Isaiah Trufant Darrin Walls Jordan White We have exclusive rights but no money so they will be gone too. They will all be gone.
A Cromartie trade would give the Jets enough cap space to sign LaRon Landry with a fair amount left over for making other things work this season. They've obviously had conversations with a bunch of teams about Revis, that might pay off on the cap front early on if Cromartie came up as option B with any of them. I think DeVito is a goner though. If he is drawing interest from a half dozen teams then somebody is going to make him an offer that is out of bounds in terms of the cap.
This x100 figure out a way to Keep Landry this year and tell Revis to hold on till next and pay the man. Cro had a stellar year and is not needed we are rebuilding lets face it
Legal tampering period started this weekend. Can't sign players to deal until Tuesday at 4PM but you can talk all you want and work out the parameters. I think it would have been better to put some PI's on agents and catch somebody tampering and take away all their draft picks for the year but the NFL decided to go the other way. In a year or two we'll have the pre-legal tampering period starting a week earlier and then a few years after that the tamper all you want rule that starts right after the Super Bowl has ended.
folk and landry are the only 2 id consider bringing back. the rest either stink or cost too much for their talent
I think the Jets could resign Bell for under 1M next season... He signed for 1.4M last offseason and is now a year older. I'd love to see DeVito brought back, but I feel like he'll get offered 3M+ per season, which might be too pricey for what he is. I'm starting to come around on Keller too as it seems he'd be a good fit in this offense. If he doesn't get the money he seeks on the market, I'd like to see him signed for about 3-4M per year. I think Landry is good as gone; William Moore from the Falcons just signed a 5yr/30M deal and I think Landry will seek at least that. I actually want to see Slauson back. If he'd accept a four year deal at around 9M, I'd certainly try to make it happen. I think Brandon Moore will get a one or two year deal worth about 4M per season with another team. Would like to see Braylon offered a deal near the minimum too...
The GM has to be looking at what the team is going to look like in 3 years with most of the moves he makes. Building for the year is important, because you don't want a train wreck on your watch, but in a rebuilding year the GM really has to be focused on the bigger picture. There's no point in making moves that make 2013 better if 2014 then becomes a rubberband year and the 2015 mix is left up in the air. Almost every move needs to look good for 2015. If Idzik does that then 2013 may be a bit off because we're rebuilding, but 2014 will be better and then 2015 is where you look to lever the window wide open again. Of the current Jets free agents only LaRon Landry has real upside in 2015, assuming he can stay healthy despite a real injury history.
Landry still has real value in 2015 because he's a star-caliber player at one of the most important positions on the field, in the middle of the defense. He's going to be 31 early in 2015 and that's why the Jets might choose to let him go without a real attempt to keep him. Braylon is going to be 32 that year and he's not a star. I don't think you can project him as an asset worth keeping for a 2015 window. If he comes cheap and outplays his contract and forces you to make that decision come 2015 that's ok but I don't think you can prioritize him at this point. He's very likely to be out of the NFL by the 2015 season.
