Below is the official cap site: https://www.nflpa.com/public-salary-cap-report It says, we have 135.8M cap used for 2016. According to overthecap.com, we will carry over 6.3M from this year. Assuming that cap will be 150M -> (150M - 135.8M) + 6.3M = 20.5M It means, we have currently 20.5M cap space. Are my calculations correct?
We only have 40 current contracts per that site. So that leave 13 roster spots to be filled, plus 10 PS roster spots, plus what ever $ that must be spend on preseason signings on players that will not make the team. Phew, 20.4m seems like a bit of a cap crunch to me.
that same website claims they will have just 14,185,000 for cap room next year, I don't think the 6.3 carries over. This website is cool...so I cut Cromartie, Cumberland, Geno Smith and Breno. It got the Jets to just under 30 mill in space. I tried to restructure Brick's contract (admittedly not knowing what i'm doing lol) but I took a million off his salary and it somehow gave the Jets up to 32,869,000 in cap space. So you can conceivably think the Jets can have up to 33 mill in space. Check the site out and play around with it. Guys like Mangold and Marshall could be cut and create 18 mill, giving the Jets around 50 mill in cap space (but that's highly unlikely).
not a ton of space, but I think we're looking at some obvious retstructures and a couple of cuts. We'll be fine. It won't be last offseason in terms of space, but we'll have room to maneuver. Good news is last offseason was a success so we won't need to make any HUGE moves.
That money will go quick when you add in MO and Fitz. That could be 14 mil or more. Unless we trade Mo, he's gonna cost us lots of money, money we may not have.
Little addition, must cuts for me: Cro 8M Ferguson if he agrees for a paycut max 7M -> 7M cap saving, if not cut -> 9M Kerley 1.3M (not a must, but we won't use him) Cumberland 1.9M
This was a hypothetical right? You aren't seriously considering cutting Marshall or Mangold? Just a "for instance"?
Yes we also have the 7th highest payroll in the nfl,I belive the other 6 teams with higher payrolls are playoff teams. There will be a lot of extra money with restructures and cuts
Either that or he is John Idziks younger brother making a pitch to beat out his brother for worse gm of all time
Saving 8 mil cutting Cro is the no brainer of the offseason. I wouldn't be against bringing him back for the 2.25 mil 1 year deal he got from the Cardinals a year prior to signing back with us.
Agreed. We should be using this offseason to tighten some areas up. No major FA overhauls like last year. Maybe a quality offensive lineman or something, ILB, tight end to pair with Jace. Something like that.
This was just scrolling on the breaking news ticker on ESPN: "in a surprising development the NY Jets have released GM Mike Maccagnan in favor of Mogriffjr to take over front office duties going into the 2016 season..." http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/ Give this one a try, it's pretty comprehensive
Yes I was just messing around on the website because Mangold and Marshall could conceivably be cut and have all savings towards the cap. The real moves and ones I'd expect to be made are the ones I outlined before that sentence. I expect the Jets to free up around 30 mill for the offseason.
http://www.ganggreennation.com/2016/1/5/10714704/jets-potential-salary-cap-casualties In another thread, all of the players listed in the article above, except Breno, I believe will be cut.
Something tells me Cro will be re-worked. I hate the idea but I don't see Bowles getting rid of him. Add Breno to that list (cap savings around 4 mil.). Pace also needs to go but I think he's a FA anyway.
