if jets beat an afc team that they lost to

jets would be 9-7 san diego finished at 9-7 apply the tie breaking formula

jets would be 6-6 in afc games and san diego finished at 6-6 in the afc

next tie breaker is common opponents minimum of 4 games

san diego beat the raiders and lost to cincy titans raiders dolphins record 1-4

jets beat raiders and dolphins and lost to cincy titans and dolphins record 2-3

    jets get tie breaker advantage

the only afc game jets coulda won was at new England first Thursday nite game 13-10

geno driving for winning td was picked off

oh do I hate bellichick-----but he is great

imagine if geno wasn't picked off----we would be in playoffs

I know its woulda coulda shoulda but we were so close

its new years morning----going out soon----but I always think GREEN

oh well. doesn't really matter. Besides, would have been the weakest playoff team in both conferences by a wide margin. Definitely would have been extra funny through just to shit on everyone that said we were a bottom 3 team.

Thanks for figuring that out, I was wondering what would have been the scenario to get in.

Forget Geno getting picked off, if only Gates holds onto the football or even that TD doesnt get overturned...

in 2010 and 2011, we lost our last 3 games to finish on a high note (not).

This year we finished 3-1 over our last 4.

    Much better.

You were already given 2 free wins this year, now you want a 3rd?

How is what I said "talking shit?"

This thread is about how you think you were 1 win away from being a playoff team. I'm pointing out the fact you were given 2 free wins.

You dont think that's relevant to the point of the thread? How is that "talking shit?"

Indeed. Also if Clyde Gates doesn't drop that TD earlier in the Pats game the final score is 14-13. We were very close to making the playoffs this year, even in a rebuilding year. One play away. All I know is that this looks very good for next year's team.

2 free wins? Really? People really love that fallacy that the game is only a summary of it's last couple plays. Nah, the team didn't score any of those points, it was a flag.

In the words of Mike Tomlin ...

"We stepped into an NFL stadium 16 times this season with an opportunity to state our case, and we didn't state it strongly enough."

    End of story.

Talking what? Start with your lame handle, and your beyond lame avatar.

You ought to instead concern yourself with your eggshell-fragile QB whose knees have gone on the blink with one "fluke" (read: soft) injury after another.

Your douchebag, flighty WR S. Johnson's mom dies (condolences to him) but he then takes off the following TWO games? You ought to concern yourself with your WR coach getting the ax, concern yourself with the fact that the Buffalo Argonauts WRs caught only 49.3% of their targeted passes (ranking 32rd out of 32rd), and concern yourself with updating your U.S. Passport, i.e. assuming you take in all your "home" games.

Oh and your special teams coverage-wise are a mess.

6-10. Yeah, once again: Bills "over" Jets.

    Tool.

Throw in the fact that neither of the 2 wins were free, in both cases the calls were absolutely 100% the right call. Ignore the fact that the Jets were better than the Pats for most of the 60 minutes that game was played or that the Bucs put themselves in position to be flagged for late hits with the reckless play of Gholdson that day.... yeah free wins. I assume the win over the Saints was free too right?

Thank you for stating the obvious, but in the eyes of the haters, it was a conspiracy

Anyone saying the Jets didn't deserve or earn the win against NE is fooling themselves. Out gained them, had almost 2:1 TOP, and held them to 3 in the last half of the game.

Even if we don't score the field goal, nothing says the Pats drive and get points on their own. We stopped them once already in OT and the D was playing well. Assuming a Pats win is purely speculation.

Against Tampa it's fair to say we lose without the penalty. But it's still hardly a free win, the team's performance put them in position to capitalize on a key mistake by Tampa Bay. Similar penalty calls to this one were made all year so there is nothing to apologize about here for it being called.

Taking away wins is just about as dumb as giving them. We were not a playoff team this year because we did not earn that 9th win. We did however earn 8 and people who argue otherwise are being obtuse.
