Jets | Barlow switches to No. 32
    Thu, 31 Aug 2006 05:24:43 -0700

The New York Daily News reports New York Jets RB Kevan Barlow, who wore No. 31 in last week's game, has switched to his old number, 32.

Jets | Team could try to trade Jolley
    Thu, 31 Aug 2006 05:21:10 -0700

The New York Daily News reports the New York Jets may attempt to trade TE Doug Jolley. He is drawing some interest, according to an NFL source. The Jets probably could fetch a late-round pick for him.

Jets | Team has cap space to add help
    Thu, 31 Aug 2006 05:02:00 -0700

Dave Hutchinson and Colin Stephenson, of the Star-Ledger, report if the New York Jets want to add help to their roster, they have about $7.287 million in salary-cap space to do so. Having so much money available might make the Jets more attractive to a veteran who is being pursued by other teams. The Jets are expected to pursue help along the defensive line.

isn't it funny how during the Offseason, all we heard was how much trouble the Jets would face with cap space? look at us now: 7.2 million in spending money. i can't stand how everything gets so blown out of proportion.

hopefully all this talk about us being a "top 3 pick in April" will be wrong also.

    cheers

I think the concern was focused before the new collective bargaining agreement was signed and payrolls increased. But I think they were well on their way to fixing the cap before that relief was supplied. Getting Chad and Curtis to take pay cuts was a huge help. Now, with Chad named the starter, I don't know how much risk there is that he will hit incentives and eat into the cap space we have currently.

Being that we traded a first rounder to get him, this of course, makes perfect sense!

not an honest argument. we also got a second round pick which we parlayed into a supposedly high value player. so trading him wouldn't be like simply trading a first round pick into a late round pick.

more than likely in that draft we got the two players we wanted, Miller and Nugent, and Jolley was simply a bonus. and arguably we got Miller a little cheaper because he was a second round pick instead of a first. there are more dynamics to the trade. I'm not defending the trade by any means, Jolley is a stiff and arguably wasn't worth it, but there was more to it.

sure, hindsight shows we maybe should have drafted Heath Miller first and then Justin Miller in the second and ignored Nugent, or Nuge and J Miller vice versa, but at the time alot of people liked the trade because we got the two players we wanted anyway and simply an extra TE who seemed like he could have potential.

jolley for a 1st straight up??? Nope

*sigh* when will the uninformed ever learn. It's not even worth rehashing.

Mangini and Jolley must really be at each other's throats since Jolley got that penalty in the giants game LOL. I wonder if he would've been trade bait if he never committed that bonehead play.

We never traded a first rounder for Jolley.

We traded the 26th overall pick for...

    TE Doug Jolley
    K Mike Nugent
    RB Cedric Houston

So basically...it was Fabian Washington for Jolley, Nugent, and Houston.

So it was Fabian Washington for "not on the team", "could have been drafted later", and "not going to be on the team."

I am almost positive that the Vikings were ready to take Nugent if we didn't.

True -- I remember hearing that -- and you never know where a player will fall in the draft. I'm a supporter of Nugent -- just think that we got hosed in that draft.

This is a correct assessment. And looking back is like driving your car while looking in the rear view mirror.

Jolley came here with a lot of competition in the form of Chris Baker and Joel Dreessen right behind him. If, by bringing Jolley here, we put a red-hot poker up Baker's @ss, we've accomplished something. And Dreessen has come a long way and could even be a starter, IMO. Seen this way, Jolley has served his purpose and brought along two guys who are at least as good as he is at catching the ball and are perhaps better blockers.

Let's look through the windshield on this one and forget about Jolley. He's history.

    31 clearly didn't fit him.

I don't give a chit what his number is as long as I see whatever number he wears on the other side of the goal line....multiple times.

Anyone want to buy a barely-defecated-on #31 Barlow jersey?
