Florio is a tool. This isn't like the redskins, we aren't paying big name players 100 million dollars... we're taking low risk moves to up our talent so we can compete with teams like the Colts and Saints. I don't look at this season as superbowl or bust. I would like to see us improve as a team and win the AFC East. Of course I want the Jets to win a superbowl more than anything this year, but this is a team has plenty of good young players. If we stumble this year, I'll deal with it. The football season is very short and lots of things can happen. The Steelers went from Superbowl champs to not making the playoffs. I have high expectations, but I'm not ready to put Tanny's head on a platter if things don't work out this year.
Rex met and exceeded my expectations last year that he laid the groundwork for. This article is trash.
If we don't win the SB, I'm not quite ready to throw myself under the bus just yet. After the draft, then all the serious talk about who will contend will be alot clearer.
I hate hearing these idiots compare what the Jets are doing to what the Skins did the past 12 years or so. The Jets were 1 half away from the Super Bowl last year and brought in a few guys that they think can help them take the next step. The Skins on the other hand, sucked pretty much every year. Then they'd sign all these high priced guys thinking it would take them from 7-9 to the Super Bowl. Then they'd go 8-8. Then it would repeat again and again. It's not the same thing at all.
Daniel Snyder signed expensive free agents, former Pro Bowlers on the decline with big name recognition, and made maybe one high profile trade that I can remember (Clinton Portis). the mere act of bringing in big names doesn't mean that dynamics are the same. the Jets have traded for big names for practically nothing and signed one free agent to a reasonable contract as a role player. attempting to compare the two reveals a simple mind that has to reduce different scenarios to their most scant similarities because the differences are too complex for them.
its actually a decent article. while a portion of it is bad there is a part that most on here just continue to fail to realize. everyone on this board needs to read the first paragraph and understand how completely inconsistent this team was last year. if they arent quite a bit more consistent this year there will be problems and everyone will be jumping off the gw. this team has potential to do things but there shouldnt be any expectations of grandeur at this point. and while the jets didnt pay big money to the free agents the way danny boy did it does still kinda stink of stuff he would do.
"And it's not coach Rex Ryan who'd face the chopping block. Ultimately, a disastrous season could finally claim the position of the man who built the team: GM Mike Tannenbaum." This freaking guy has some sort of vendetta against Tanny and has for a while. He's been calling for him to be fired for like 3 years now. What a jackass.
so what you are saying is that tomlinson and possibly taylor are not big names that were pro bowlers on the decline?
This is the second article like this from PFT in the matter of two weeks. We are going to be hated by any and everyone else in the NFL. Two reasons... 1.) Rex is outspoken 2.) Jealousy But the funny part is...just about every other team in the NFL would love to have Rex as their HC and our level of talent.
Everyone on here knows that the team was inconsistent through the season. Everyone. What YOU consistently ignore is the way the team came together and grew in the playoffs. Obviously the Jets need to be more consistent. You say no one else recognizes that, but it's simply untrue. We just feel optimistic about the team's play down the stretch and see serious potential to build on that. Why do you ALWAYS and ONLY seek out ways to bash this team, this site, and the fans of both? I've never seen a positive thing from you about any of the three. It's like you're a Dolphin fan trying to pretend otherwise.
We all know the team was inconsistent over the course of the season, but even skeptics had to take notice of the way the team finished, when the pressure was on. Key was Sanchez's play, but also Shonn Greene coming on. Edwards improved as well. The D came together after Jenkins went down. Leonhard in particular played well. The main hole on D turned out to be corner opposite Revis. Cromartie fills that hole. To make a simple answer to your point, we have reason to think last year's wild inconsistency is a thing of the past.
