Wow..is this a good idea? Had he already agreed to stay or are they saying you can't leave whether you want to or not? http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6384866/13131868 "It looks as if Brian Schottenheimer will stay with the Jets as their offensive coordinator. A source close to the situation told me that the Jets denied Detroit permission to interview Schottenheimer for the offensive coordinator's job there. "If they deny an NFC club permission," he said, "what does that tell you?" The source said the Jets liked the combination of Schottenheimer and offensive line coach Bill Callahan and did not want either to leave."
Offense won't be too hard to call next year anyway. Give it to TJ, Give it to TJ, Give it to Leon, throw it once, Give it to TJ, Give it to Leon, Give it to TJ....etc.
Not so fast. Ryan is a D guy, and will be focusing mostly on D. It would be nice to have continuity on offense to make things easier on Ryan this first year.
It doesn't make sense to keep a guy who does not want to be here. If Schotty wanted to leave, he should have been shown the door.
Then again, the story is probably that the Lions wanted to interview him before Ryan was hired and the Jets were not going to let him go until Ryan had a chance to talk to him.
+1 I want coaches that want to coach the New York Jets...if you don't want to be here...then let him go. The longer this drags on, the harder it will be for Rex to assemble an offensive staff if Schotty does end up going somewhere. If Schotty stays and is disgruntled...that could cause a future distraction detrimental to the team.
He's horrible. Since when does everybody support this guy? They just want him here so Favre will stay....do we want that?
I can't imagine he would be disgruntled. Everyone is a professional and if Schotty wants to b e a HC some day he knows that he can't screw up his O coordinator duties. Even if he is forced to stay he will have to do a good job or else the HC job goes further and further away from him. If he was leaving to be a HC thats fine, but leaving the Jets because they didn't give you the HC job to go to the Lions for the same exact job?! That's BS!! Honor your contract, be a professional and then you'll get opportunities to be a HC.
Just wondering hasn't it been established that Vagini pretty much handcuffed him this year...... I liked what I saw of his play calling the 1st season he was here, think he's got any of that left in him?
Even if Schotty doesn't want to be here it's not like he's going to just throw the season. Ryan was snubbed as Head Coach in Baltimore last season and still managed to put the best defense in the NFL out there every week. Schotty is basically beginning a season-long interview process.
You would think he would want to show his mettle as the Jets OC, to put him on the hot list of HC next year.
If Detroit wants him, give us picks or buy his contract out, its called doing business. If we let them talk, he thinks he's not wanted.
Show me where it's been 'established'... All that's been established is that there were a bunch of 'anonymous sources' that threw Mangini under the bus for every single thing that went wrong. Give me a break with this handcuffing nonsense, already. He was the OC. He deserves to be accountable for at least SOME of the offense, no? BTW, in 2006, after teams had seen enough film on Schotty's defense, it was FAR from impressive. I had expected him to get better. He got worse.
I still don't get it. This guy's resume is garbage. Let him go to Detroit where garbage is appreciated.
