According to the Star Ledger, the Jets and Ravens have a tentative deal in place depending on how the first 12 Picks fall off the board The Ravens want Haloti Ngata, so if Nagata is there for them at 13 they will just pick him and be done with it However, if Ngata is off the board at 13 {as most mocks are projecting}, AND IF JAY CUTLER IS STILL ON THE BOARD AT 13, the Jets will send Baltimore their 29th and 35th overal picks for the Ravens #13 Overall Pick so we can draft Cutler at 13 The #4 Pick plays no role in this discussion ... that is an entity all to it's self and will remain with the NY Jets __________________
Bad bad move.... I don't want cutler... Next year brady quinn will be a better QB than any QB available this draft.
What in God's green earth make you think that Quinn will be there for the good old Jets...Have you forgotten that the rest of the teams will be drafting too? If we can't get a top QB at 4, what makes you think we can chance it next year without trading the farm away?
I read that article too, and Ill believe it when I see it happen. I think its possible the Jets could look for a quarterback at 29 or 35, but I dont see them packaging those picks to move up for a guy whos as boom/bust as Cutler.
Brady QUinn will be the #1 pick next year mark my words. No way we have a chance in hell of drafting him next year after we make the playoffs in '06.
guess we will just have to pray calhoun falls to the 3rd rd it happens. see onterrio smith and melwede moore
You can't manage a team like that. First, you have no idea if Brady Quinn will suffer a major injury next season. Second, you don't know if he'll just, for some reason, just become a bad player. Most importantly, there's no way to know if the Jets will even have a chance to draft him next year.
umm no. tell those bitches in merryland we will give them the #4 pick and the #35 for their #13 pick and um ed reed then we will talk. guys its just smokescreens. their will be 5 more before saturday.
To me, Cutler is a bottom of round 1 talent. If he's gone by #13, or if we do this deal, it would be a reach. He has Kyle Boller written all over him. give me someone who does it on the field. I'm sick of these scouts falling in love with workout numbers.
Finally some intelligent life around here. Completely agree 100%. Problem is people want the quick fix, sorry folks Carson Palmers don't come along every draft. Heck look at Eli's numbers, not great. But he wins games becuase he has a nice supporting cast, you do not need a star QB to be successful in this league, sure it helps, but build a solid team and you will be successful in this league. We need to draft quanity and quality, not put all of our hopes into one guy. Drafting QB's high is way too much risk, when they flop they ruin the franchise for years to come cause of the salary demands. Oh well all I can say is if I hear Cutlers name when the Jets are up Saturday I will be vry disapointed.
Yes Yes The Jets need players who can contribute. They need bodies. To give up two picks for one is foolish IMHO. When a team has holes, you try to acquire many picks. If the Jets make any trade it will be to trade down and acquire more picks. That is the only thing I can see them doing, and the Jets I believe aren't even thinking QB with their first 3 picks.
interesting. I could certainly see this happening, too. 29 and 35 are nice picks, right in the meat and potatoes of where our need picks will be chosen, but I honestly feel that if you think you've found a franchise QB then you have to take him.
The good news is, with the new CBA, there won't be a huge rookie contract on hand. It only calls for a 5% increase over last yr. That gives the #1 pick about 2.85M in 2006. The signing bonus can only spread over 6 yrs too I believe, which means if the guy takes a base minimum salary of 230K, that leaves 2.52M on his cap #, which, if all used on pro-rated signing bonus is 15.12M, which is a lot less than usual. Of course, teams can just guarantee year 2 and beyond payments to get around the cap. The Jets did this partially with Vilma in 2004 giving him an option bonus in year 2. If Leinart is there at #4, I'd have a hard time passing on him. I hear you with what you say about QBs, but this QB wins. However, if Ferguson is selected, I'd be fine with it. I wouldn't be a big fan of Mario Williams being selected because I see him as a workout warrior as well.
i would stay where we are, or trade down for more picks. Face it guys, we are not a couple of players away from a title...rebuild now.
I wouldnt do it just because of the immediate help we would get at #29 & #35. Think about it, those 2 picks could start for us this year say Lawson/Carpenter and McNeil/Winston while Cutler is a few years away. We can wait until a later round or next year to draft a QB. Now if Winston Justice is still on the board at #13 and the Ravens still want to make the deal than I am all for it.
