Some changes here and a SURPRISE Jets pick and possibly a bigger surprise in the 2nd round. A couple of falls and rises here that are sure to be talked about immediately, but I'll let you guys figure them out. 1. Detroit: Matt Stafford QB: It?s simple really? The Lions just can?t afford to pass on a franchise QB here. They might want to play Dante Culpepper for a while so there?s no need to rush Stafford in. This is the best way to raises his chances of success in Detroit. 2. St. Louis: Eugene Monroe OT: It?s Monroe or Jason Smith here. Monroe is more NFL-ready than Smith and probably less of a risk. 3. Kansas City: Aaron Curry LB: An easy pick here, the Chiefs need a LB regardless of which defensive style they utilize next year. 4. Seattle: Matt Sanchez QB: With Hasselbeck turning 34 in September, it?s time to think of the future. Sanchez could sit for a season or two and would be eased into the game. Because he has only a full season of college experience, this is an ideal situation. 5. Cleveland: Michael Crabtree WR: Braylon Edwards is close to being traded. Kellen Winslow was traded. Joe Juerevicious wasn?t resigned and is in his mid 30s and Donte Stallworth is soon to be incarcerated. Seriously, who is Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson going to throw to??? 6. Cincinnati: BJ Raji DT: This dominant defensive tackle is a prototypical 3-4 NT, but can also be a disruptive pass-rusher. Raji is one of the best DT prospect to come along in recent years. 7. Oakland: Darrius Heyward-Bey WR: In desperate need of WRs, the Raiders opt for the guy with the 2009 class?s best triangle numbers. 8. Jacksonville: Jeremy Maclin WR: A run on WRs? Last year?s trend was a result of the players and not the position itself. The Jaguars are in dire need of WRs like Oakland. It is far and away their biggest need and they might go for another one within the next couple rounds. 9. Green Bay: Eugene Monroe OT: The Packers could use some defensive help, but Monroe is an outstanding value and both of their tackles are well into their 30s now. 10. San Francisco: Brian Orakpo OLB/DE: A nice value here, Orakpo will hopefully provide the 49ers with a better pass rush. 11. Buffalo: Michael Oher OT: After trading Jason Peters, the Bills opt for a potential franchise LT here. 12. Denver: Tyson Jackson DE: A prospect that will be in demand because he?s a natural 3-4 fit, Jackson probably won?t make it past this spot. 13. Washington: Robert Ayers DE: With no OT worth this spot (Don?t say Andre Smith, please), the Redskins opt for defensive line help with the up-and-coming Robert Ayers. 14. New Orleans: Malcolm Jenkins DB: The Ohio St cornerback has below average speed and may project safety in the NFL. This is fine, however, since the Saints could use help at either spot. 15. Houston: Clay Matthews LB: Despite signing Cato June, the Texans could use a player like Matthews that can play inside, outside, dominate special teams and maybe even some defensive end. 16. San Diego: Rey Maualuga ILB: The Chargers could use a true difference maker at ILB and Maualuga is that guy. They have enough depth that he could work in a rotation, which would be most effective for him. 17. NY Jets: Brian Robiskie WR: Scratch your heads if you want, but Robiskie is the real deal. With no weaknesses other than average speed, Robiskie would have been a higher pick in an offense that wasn?t more run-oriented and didn?t have a true freshman at QB. This is the type of guy that can step and be a top target in week 1. 18. Denver: Everette Brown OLB/DE: A solid value here, the only knock on Brown is his lack of height (just under 6-2), but he profiles as a 3-4 OLB. 19. Tampa Bay: Evander Hood DT: A prospect on the rise, Hood is stout against the run and can also provide a pass-rush. 20. Detroit: William Beatty OT: Maybe a slight reach, but franchise left tackles are always valuable commodities and Beatty has the potential to be just that. 21. Philadelphia: Knowshon Moreno RB: With no depth at RB and Westbrook hitting the dreaded 3 0, another option is needed and Moreno is an effective inside and outside runner. 22. Minnesota: Josh Freeman QB: The Vikings can now hold a 4 way QB competition with Tarvaris Jackson, Sage Rosenfels and David Booty. While I don?t feel Freeman is worth a first round pick, he has a chance to go as high as Jacksonville if some team falls in love with his big arm. 23. New England: Connor Barwin OLB/DE: A match-made in heaven for the Patriots, Barwin can also play TE for the Pats. 24. Atlanta: Peria Jerry DT: Defensive line > Tight End? The Falcons have big problems with their interior line and Jerry is too good to pass up. 25. Miami: Clint Sintim OLB/DE: This underrated linebacker projects as a 3-4 OLB and will provide more pass-rush opposite Joey Porter. 26. Baltimore: Brian Cushing LB: The heir at ILB, Cushing could even play OLB for the Ravens who lost Bart Scott. 27. Indianapolis: Hakeem Nicks WR: This smart, reliable WR is more quick than fast and is the type of WR that the Colts like. 28. Buffalo: Brandon Pettigrew TE: A nice value here, Pettigrew will be considered with their #11 pick as well. 29. NY Giants: Alex Mack C/G: A nice value here, the Giants should begin preparing for the future as starters Shaun O?Hara and Rich Seubert are getting up there in age. 30. Tennessee: Vontae Davis CB: The Titans need a starter and depth at CB. Davis can also contribute as a return man. 31. Arizona: Aaron Maybin OLB/DE: Another great value here, Maybin falls due to concerns with his size and lack of experience. Despite good RBs still around, this is too good of a value here. 32. Pittsburgh: Eben Britton T/G: The versatile lineman is just the type of powerful player that the Steelers like up front. 33. Detroit: James Laurinaitis ILB 34. New England: Louis Delmas S 35. I'd really like us to grab Robiskie too...but in the 2nd round. But we have no idea what the draft will bring and who guessed Donnie Avery will be the first WR taken last year?
I can't see the Jets passing over players like Nicks or Moreno in favor of Robiskie. Nothing against Robiskie....but I'd probably shoot innocent people in the streets if your mock came true. EDIT: Two other points of interest: 1) not sure who Matt Sanchez is...but I hope Seattle likes him at #4. :wink: 2) Andre Smith won't last till #55....I wasn't high on him after his poor showing at the combine and his pro day....but apparently teams still view him as a top 10 talent.
Do some reading on Robiskie... He's a prospect on the rise. He has one weakness: Average speed. And even for a big guy, a 4.5 is pretty damn good. Seriously, what's not to like about this guy? He'll be LONG gone by our 2nd round pick. A guy like Robiskie is WELL WORTH our #17 pick. Can someone tell me why he's not aside from the fact that most other sites have him as a late 1st/early 2nd?
Robiskie is my guy in this draft. He made the combine his bitch and he is an Ohio State WR, they produce some of the best. if the Jets found someone who wanted to trade up to 17 and the Jets moved down to any spot late in the 1st its a great selection. I kinda like Coffee, i wouldn't mind taking him
ummm theres one thing he is lacking and of course you know its speed... now this is what we need in a receiver Good route runner which robiske is and he needs to be either tall or speed or both for the matter to take the top of the defense and draw double teams ... all the years thas what we really lacked since keyshawn left we missed that presence and thats exactly why the giants didnt do so good last year as the got deeper in the playoffs...
Robiske isnt a bad player, he had a great 07 campaign and a good 08 one too(He worked with a young QB in Pryor) but he isnt worth the 17th overall pick. Much like Gilbert, which I dont understand how he shot up to the 17th overall pick so quickly. He had good workouts etc. Ok but this is the equivalent of taking Donte Whitner or Ted Ginn Jr in the top 10. Both arent bad talents but there were better guys around at the time of picks. Robiske is the 5th maybe 6th best WR of the draft behind Crabtree, Maclin, DHB, Nicks and Britt, I just dont see how hed be the 17th overall pick especially with the way WRs were falling last year. Other thoughts: 1. Tough to see DHB over Maclin even if its Oakland 2. Doubt Sanchez goes that high when SEA has bigger needs like O-Line when theres a good one waiting(I dont know if you have Monroe or Smith at 9 but yeah one of those lineman) 3. Gmen probably wont pass up on Britt for Mack but I can understand the thinking here. 4. As much as JAX needs a WR, if Jason Smith/Monroe fell to 8 they arent going to give that up especially with Barnes going to OAK. Just an awful line as of this moment Outside of that I dont think this was a very bad mock draft altogether.
The way I see it, Robiskie has great size (6-3, 210, great toughness and physicality and isn't afraid to go over the middle. He has outstanding hands, runs terrific routes and is a hard worker. The only issue is his speed, which is very solid for a bigger WR (4.5) in terms of timed speed. Throw him into the mix with Cotchery and the speedsters, David Clowney and Chansi Stuckey, and you have a GREAT mix of size, speed and styles of play from the WRs. My close 2nd choice was Kenny Britt. To me, he's a better prospect than DHB, Kenny Britt and MAYBE Maclin. I think that if he didn't have a running-freshman QB and a star RB with Chris Wells on the team, his stats would have been much better and would have been considered a mid-first rounder by all. But that's fine. I don't see eye to eye on this with most of you, but I understand and respect your point with him.. But I just disagree about this. Personally, I think he's worth our pick if we're looking WR. But hey, I'm just a draftnik, not an actual GM.. I think that he's going to go higher than most think though.. He's just too good of a prospect.
We would live to regret passing on Moreno and Freeman for Robiskie, I like him but not mid first round. Thankfully I would give this a less then 5% chance of happening.
I don't believe Stafford is going to be the first pick in the draft OT have had much better success lately If they don't work out at LT, then you can always switch them to RT With a QB, it's one option and one only Plus all that guaranteed money the first pick would command
Robiskie's stock has shot through the roof, but I think most of it is just hyped up media. He is a good one, don't get me wrong, he just isn't worth our selection at #17. We could get way better value there and possibly be able to trade up to get Robiskie early in the 2nd. Which would be fantastic. I honestly foresee WR slipping to the later first, early second round. They all remind me of last years draft prospects.
The NFL mock makes a lot of sense - I don't think the Raiders will take Heyward-Bey...even if they've made some god awful decisions in the past. 1. I like Robiskie a lot, but he's not worth the 17th pick. I know he's been flying up boards...but not that much. 2. Jarron Gilbert may be a little overrated on TGG, but he's most definitely not a late second rounder. He'll go late first to early second...the Steelers won't let him get out of the first in my opinion. 3. Anthony Hill is an excellent blocking tight end and he has upside as a receiving, but his injury-riddled past scares me. If he makes it into the 4th, then you take a chance on him, but I don't know about taking a backup, blocking, injury prone tight end this early. 4. I'm not and never have been a fan of Glen Coffee. He's overrated and benefited from playing behind a dominant offensive line and playing for a close-to-genius run first offensive coordinator. He's a slowish "power" back...that played the entire season under 200 pounds. He gained extra weight for the combine. 6. ...can't go wrong with an offensive lineman that can play both tackle and guard. 7. This is the NFL, not college football - where you're from doesn't matter. Westerman is a UDFA all the way. If he's a local kid, he may have a shot at the Jets' or Giants' practice squad.
Too receiver laden. People are still scared of drafting WRs in round 1. Last year it was "rumored" Devin Thomas may go as high as top 15. Did not happen. Robiskie will be very good I think but he is far from the best player available at that point. That looks like a "panic pick" because receivers are flying off the board. Tannebaum and Rex are wise enough to not make a reach-need pick.
