Not for nothing but wasn't he cut for missing kicks too? I want the Jets to do whatever gives them the best shot to win but I don't see how either kicker is significantly better or worse than the other. I think they are both pretty good, but I won't claim to know how many kicks Reed has made or missed this year but he couldn't have been doing that well for a loyal team like the Steelers to dump him.
A couple of things. I think it's too early to give up on folk despite his history. I also think a challenge will not make him improve but put more pressure on him and lead to failure. On the other hand I think reeds problems have stemmed from the fact that he didn't get a new contract and he is burning bridges with his teammates and the steeler organization. He has the experience playing for a winner in big games and has proven in the past he can kick outdoors. Normally I would say wait it out and see with folk but if we do and someone else grabs reed then we may have no options to turn to. Tough call.
This is the dumbest fucking idea I've heard today, and I've had some doozies. Cut a kicker for missing FGs, and sign another one THAT WAS CUT FOR MISSING FIELD GOALS. AYFKM?? Get a clue, srsly.
Wow, thats awful. I guess we could sign him for a game to make Jets fans realize it could always be worse.
Jeff Reed is 15 -22 and 0/4 b/w 40-49 and was just cut for missing FGs. Nick Folk is 18-24 and 2/4 b/w 40-49. How would that be an upgrade?
Yeah I was curious to see just how bad he was and I was shocked to found out he's been this awful recently. Folk was 16-19 coming into Sunday's game and was 2-5 in a tough place to kick. He'll be fine.
Jeff is having a bad year but you have to look at the history here. Jeff has been around for a long time and has kicked in big games outdoors and over the past three seasons he has made over 87 % of his kicks. He was good enough to kick for the steelers since 02 and now he is pissed about his contract misses a few kicks and they cut him. On the other hand we have folk who made 64% of his kicks last season and now is at 75% this yr. If I had to choose a guy to make a big kick for me I'm going with reed.
Why are you giving Reed a 3 year window and Folk only a one year window? I can assume that giving Folk the same window and off setting his injured year makes your 87% to 64% comparision a bit weaker.
If he can't handle some competition, then he definitely can't be trusted to be clutch when we need it most. You also make a really good point regarding his past achievements, though from what I've been reading, he does come off as a bit immature. He didn't say to cut Folk, he said to bring him in to give the guy a challenge, which IMO is exactly what he needs. Better to find out now that he can't take the heat than in a crucial postseason moment.
yes, that is why Folk missed those kicks, because he is content at his job and isn't being challenged. players never get cut so he has nothing to fear. the dumbfuckery of this thread, from the concept to the argument for it, is simply astounding.
Who do we cut to give our kicker, who has been fine save for 1 game, some "competition"? Do we deplete our WR corps even more? Perhaps dig into our lack of depth at DL some?
One awful game, which we went on to win anyway. And we want to bring in a bum like Reed??? 2 of those kicks were from nearly 50 yards and on a crappy field. The only really terrible one was the 24 yarder, that was inexcusable.
Great, sign Reed so he can miss a clutch kick in December when we play IN Pittsburgh. No thanks, pass.
