I still believe Smith's future is at guard. He's best in the phone booth where he can use that explosion combined with his quick feet. He's average as a right tackle. But he's an upgrade to Hunter & is extremely talented. He went #2 overall for a reason. Maybe Sparano can fix him.
lol oh Schotty... thanks for collecting our trash. Rich Cimini @RichCimini Filed to ESPN: #Jets close to finalizing deal for Rams RT Jason Smith, league sources. RT Wayne Hunter part of deal. Smith, No. 2 pick '09.
Wow, the Jets managed to find one of the only tackles actually worse than Hunter. I guarantee Howard continues to start. IMO, a swap of two terrible linemen is a wash. What does it add? Is Smith's contract guaranteed? If not, the Jets might have just swapped a guaranteed contract for one that isn't, which means they could cut Smith, effectively getting out of Hunter's guaranteed money. That would be a pretty cool move, but I doubt they are doing that.
And at best Hunter is an awful RT. I'm all for this, even if Howard is the starter, this guy is solid depth and WFH is gone.
