Jason Babin's base salary for this year is $5.575 million. Any team claiming him on waivers would pick up the $1.64 million in salary left.

A month ago, I would say hell yeah..... at this point, does it really matter? There's going to be a major overhaul coming this offseason regardless

I'm not a fan of throwing games for a higher draft pick (not responding to you, just saying). If claiming Babin means $1.64 million spent this year and none would be owed to him next year then I'd advocate signing this beast.

Babin had a field day against us last year.

Because they've lost 7 games in a row, have given up on the season, cutting Babin sooner than later probably saves the team the most money, and what Andy Reid said about giving younger players more time snaps given that they're rebuilding. If there were anything else one would have to assume Babin wasn't putting in enough effort or was causing problems in the locker room.

4-3 d end, he doesn't fit our 3-4 defense, pass. Also he was released because he was an overpaid under performer.

It can't hurt at this point. Isn't Pace injured and if not crappy? He can't possibly be worse than Pace.

Even if there was a chance we spent money to pick him up, odds are he's just going to go to a playoff team anyway.

He's old, has a contract that we can't absorb beyond this year, and doesn't fit the scheme. They're obviously not going to put in a waiver claim when he wouldn't make one bit of difference here.

In the grand scheme of things, Babin doesn't cost much. He had a $1 mil signing bonus spread out over 5 years. They've already paid him most of this year's salary. His salary for next year is 4,445,000 and his last 2 years are @ $6.2 mil.

Guy has 5.5 sacks, which is close to 1/3 of our sack total as a team.

Have to think that there's something else going on other than saving money and getting reps for younger guys.

He doesn't fit our defense very well -- the Jets need a edge rusher who can stand up and play linebacker, not a 4-3 DE.
