How come there's been no talk about the Jaguars and Tim Tebow this spring? Last year during the season there were many stories about how Jacksonville desperately needed to find a way to draft him because they needed a way to sell tickets and spur local interest in the team. Now, with all the draft talk, there are no stories about Tebow being picked by the Jags even though Tebow's stock has dropped making a grab for him by the Jaguars easier to accomplish. What gives? Jaguar subterfuge?
The Jaguars have a solid QB and have bigger needs that can be met at their slot in the draft. They would be wasting a pick on a QB who needs plenty of work to develop in the NFL, when they could get a top tier pick at another position. Despite this, there still is plenty of discussion about this. Plenty of stories about it.
I live in NE FL, and many of my friends are big JAGS fans / season ticket holders (the few that show up at games :wink so I'm submersed in JAGness.... personally, while I think it would be good from a business standpoint initially, it would be bad for the kid, and for the franchise if he doesn't pan out. The hype with him in JAX would be off the charts..... they already talk about him on every news / sports / broadcast anything everyday as it is. The general public are not the most knowledgeable NFL fans (GO GATORRRS!) so there will be an enormous amount of pressure on him, and the franchise to get in the game as soon as Garrard has some bad performances ( Who I feel is only an average QB at best anyway) I actually feel that Tebow will eventually succeed in the NFL if he lands in the right situation and is allowed to sit for awhile and develop an offense to suit his skillset, but not if he's thrown into the mix. That being said, I can still see him going to JAX in rd 2 (or if they make some tradedowns in rd 1 because Buffalo in rd 2 is an option also) but they have several other holes to fill as they only have mediocre talent across the board after years of Shaq Harris's heinous 1st rd draft picks, and can not afford another bust. Their draft last year was pretty solid though, so we'll see. Don't be surprised to see NE take him with one of their 2nd rd picks. Bellyache can use him as a situational option QB while he sits behind Brady for a few seasons. In 3 years Brady will have 13 years in the league (and some injuries) so.... :shit:
According to this 2002 article, they're locked into Alltell stadium until 2030. http://jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/122902/jag_11340226.shtml I'm not sure if that lease has been reworked or how their finances have come out since then but it should be a major stumbling block...until someone shows up in Jacksonville with a suitcase full of unmarked, non-sequential Benjamins, Grants and Jacksons.
well, this year should be #3 in a row...... the city does give them a sweetheart deal, and the stadium is pretty nice for the most part (very good views of the game especially) They've been marketing and advertising to sell tix big time this year! Finally treating it like a small town/city, instead of marketing like it's a big time market. I try to buy some tix every year if I can (as long it doesn't interfere with watching the JETS game), simply because I like having an NFL franchise in town, and would like them to stay.
