Jets coach Todd Bowles said Ryan Fitzpatrick remains the starting QB. Bowles was non-committal after last night's loss to the Patriots, but he said there was never a doubt. "No debate," he said. He said GM Mike Maccagnan is on board with his decision. The Bryce Petty era will have to wait another week. Rich "DICK" Cimini Espn oh joy....
Yesterday was the absolute worst case scenario and you just knew it would happen. Fitz plays well and we beat the Pats. Always a plus. Fitz plays like shit and we win it's a win win. Plays like shit but we lose was my actual hope. Of course he plays relatively well and we lose. Perfect excuse for the gutless coward coach to run him back out there again.
Why? other than him "giving us the best chance to win" when winning means absolutely horse shit at this point in the season. Why?
Yes to fans winning meaningless games means nothing. To a head coach in the NFL in his second year it means everything. Its amazing why this is so hard for everyone to understand.Petty hasnt earned a chance to play either has Hackenberg. You act like Bowles is benching Aaron Rodgers in favor of Fitzpatrick ....
god bless any of you who continue to watch these games, including yesterday's this team can kiss my black ass
The rams started the development of Jared Goff, I'm sure he isn't completely ready to play in the NFL yet. At some point you have to let your kids get behind the wheel of the car so they can learn to drive. Bowles is the one acting like he has Aaron Rodgers as his starter.
Clearly Petty and Hack have looked awful in practice. Bowles is not as dumb as people think. No one is. Haha. If either had a chance to look decent, he would start them. Petty must not be good enough and Hackenberg must need more time.
Jared Goff was the first pick in the draft they traded a shit load to get...Not Bryce Petty who was drafted in the 4th round with the idea of him being a franchise backup qb.Which is obviously what they see him as...Why hasnt he beaten Fitz out for the job?He had a chance to take the job against the Rams and we lost 9-6...If he looked amazing that day and we won he would have kept the job.
No but Bryce Petty isnt either.Ive never seen a team start evaluating for next year with 5 games left.
It's not hard to understand that logic at all. What's hard to understand is that the logic makes no sense. Right now, it has become beyond painfully obvious that Fitzpatrick isn't the guy to lead this team. And there's no bonafide option behind him. That, however, does not make it LESS of a reason to play Petty, but MORE of a reason. If you knew he was absolutely the guy, then you continue to sit him and let him get ready. The fact is, no one knows what he can do. And waiting until there's 1-2 games left doesn't tell you ANYTHING. He needs to play and learn as he goes that way the coaching staff has an idea of whether or not to focus on him next year, draft another quarterback, or sign a vet. You can't find this stuff out in two games. But the Jets will never get this. The coach will, rightfully, do what's needed to save his job. The owner should tell Bowles "you're here next year no matter what, do what is best for OUR organization and don't worry about your job". But that'll never happen.
No one knows what Bryce Petty can do?lol obviously the coaching staff does which is why he isnt playing. There a very few secrets in the NFL these days and Bryce Petty isnt one of them
Dak Prescott was also drafted in the 4th round, guess how he is doing? Petty has been in the league longer than both of the QBs mentioned, your seriously telling me that he is not going to be developed by this CS until his 3rd year possibly 4th year? If this CS waits till the last 2 games of the year to give Petty playing time, they should be fired. The Pats will probably have home field wrapped up and will be resting players. The bills might be in the hunt for a wild card, so Petty will start one game that means anything. It's the CS job to develope players, not just try and win games.
He's not doing it to win games or because Petty isn't ready. He's doing it because he has no balls and he doesn't want the rest of the team to give up and make him look bad on Monday Night Football. He'd rather lose 24-17 with a late Fitzpatrick turnover, then have the rest of the guys quit and lose by worse. Most coaches would tell their team to STFU and play no matter who is QBing but he sucks as a leader of men. So we're stuck with Fitzpatrick.
You're making even broader assumptions that I am. All we can ascertain is that he isn't as "good" as Fitzpatrick right now. Which is to be expected - Fitzpatrick is bad but has moments of being halfway decent. But whether or not he's ready isn't the point - there is no reason not to find out. THere's no hope of playoffs, Fitzpatrick shouldn't be here next year, but Petty will be. And 2 games this year along with preseason games against vanilla defenses that aren't even trying won't tell anyone anything. And, quite frankly, you said it yourself - the coach doesn't care about "meaningless", they are all meaningful. But he's looking at it like he needs to win games to save his job. Nothing he does between now and the end of the season should cost him his job. You're either bringing him back or you're sold in firing him at this point. Not even the Jets can be dumb enough to base such a decision on 5-6 meaningless games in a lost season.
The only reason hes starting Fitzpatrick is to give himself an out if they bring him back next season. It seems thats the plan. Bring Fitz back next year. Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
Dak Prescot looked good from day 1 and is 1 of 2 QBs drafted in the 4th round in the last 15 years to look promising. The other is Kirk Cousins. There could be one i missed. The sad thing is we drafted Devin Smith 37th overall and the Raiders took Derek Carr 36th .Would we have taken him?Why didnt Mac trade up
I disagree. They could both be lighting it up in practice and we would have no idea. They are just handing the job to Sixpatrick. Just cause they aren't playing doesn't mean they have looked bad in practice.
