They seen that Kellen was under attack all day long so in the hell didn't we throw some screen passes? Yes Kellen holds the ball to long but when ur QB is not getting protected u have to change up and we didn't. DAMN I miss Herm.
Kellen reminds me a little bit of Drew Bledsoe....good at some things, but indecisive to a fault. That may change with experience, who knows? When you have a QB that can't make a quick decision, they tend to do poorly with screen passes. The Jets O-line looked terrible. Is it just me, or are they undersized? It loosk to me like they are either short and fat, or tall and skinny. At any rate, they were overpowered. Without ahving the opportunity to watch many Jets games, that is the biggest problem on the team, from what I can see. If you are consistently losing the battle at the line of scrimmage, very little else will work consistently.
Screen passes need blocking. Blocking is something that this OL does not do. Yesterday and the whole season for that matter comes down to the fact that the Jets have 0 talent except for 5 positions.
They tried a couple but a screen pass requires a certain amount of touch on the pass , not a 100 mile/hr fastball low and outside.
No speed on offense without Coles to scare any of the Dallas secondary and they could blitz all game. We didn't have the talent on offense.
He was under fire alot but he also held onto the ball too long alot and when he did throw to open receivers he was inaccurate. This was a vntage Rick Mirer like performance- I hope he shakes it off at Miami.
It's been the coaching all year long, while we're not the most talented team in the league we're not as bad as we've shown so far. Clemens is still running the Chad offense, which means our opposition still get to line everyone up to stop the run. We rarely throw past the first down marker and only go for short passes or a run on third down, which to me is giving up. Then there's our defense, which every team in the league should know how to destroy by now. Just run it at D-Rob or at least where he was to start with, now that he's gone 6 yards backwards and can't even stand his ground with one lineman. Sadly with the current owner, Mangini will probably be back next year. Any decent owner who can see how badly this team is run, would have sacked the coaches by now. After waiting years for Herm to leave, we're back in the same position with the new idiot in town. This has left me focusing on the Brett Favre revival, now that's an offensive system Clemens has a chance to succeed in.
Coaching I am sick of watching Mangini chomping his gum with a frozen Kotitesque, dispassionate, vacant look on his face. I want to shove that gum in his ear & give Shottenheimer a well deserved wedgie for his blatant incompetence. To embarrass his team & more importantly his fans with an overly conservative simplistic gameplan was to much to take. To go down swinging is OK. To go down in a show of predictability, weakness & futility is another. The Jets looked like Mike Tyson's first 30 opponents, before they figured him out. (scared & intimidated from the outset). This game was over before it began. Somehow the coaches think the team is so overly talented that they can sleepwalk to victory. Someone tell these guys that Terrell Davis (in his prime)is not the runing back & Rice, Monk & Moss are not receiving!!!!!!
somebody please convince our o- coordinator that our defense is going to give up 24 or more, and not to play like each game is a defensive struggle.i guess its all a reflection of our dope head coach mangini. he is terrible. we will suck until he is gone.
The screen pass should get to the WR/RB as quickly as possible, without being knocked down.... You don't want to give the defense time to react and make a play on the receiver before he has a chance to get moving upfield by putting too much air under the ball. The only reason you frequently see them floated is because the DL is usually let in, and the QB needs to float it to get it over their heads.... On a play that depends on yards after the catch, the QB's job is first to get it there, and second, to do so as quickly as possible..... Also, I agree with the OP about our need to change things up, especially with our drastically undersized line.... If we're having trouble getting a push in the middle, we have to get matchups in our favor... Screen passes and outside run plays that require pulling OL match our OL with their LBs and DBs... We'll win that matchup every time... The gameplanning and in game adjustments with this team are both despicable...
He doesn't remind me of Bledsoe at all. Bledsoe was a tall, strong-armed immobile QB who did everything out of the pocket. Clemens is more of a scrambler and he really is not good in the pocket. When he's in the shotgun his decision making and accuracy are definitely elevated. He reminds me more of Danny White than Bledsoe. It's not the decision making, it's the fact that his receivers are not getting separation and then they are dropping too many balls when they do get open. Yeah, what the Jets were thinking this offseason is beyond me but they missed the most basic point in the NFL, which is that competence is determined on the line of scrimmage. Going to get Jones while they let the offensive line go to seed was the most delusional act by a Jets front office since the Neil O'Donohue signing after the 1995 disaster. And lo and behold, very little else is working. Isn't it amazing that rank amateurs like you and I can see this and yet the "pros" that run the Jets let it happen? Even encouraged it by running Pete Kendall out of town? I have no faith at all in the current regime to do anything but run us into the ground over the next few seasons. I'd be very happy if there was a clean sweep of the organization after the season.
Who do you suggest? and how long would you give them before you were ready to run them out of town to start over again?
I think overall, it seems people are over-reacting a bit and expecting a bit too much on a team that has passed the baton on a barely 2 year pro in Clemens. When you do this, forget about expecting a consistant offense, especially with a piece-meal OL. You can put the blame on the CS all you want, but I certainly do recall fans here screaming for CP's head, so there you go! You got what you wanted. Get out the crying towels, it's going to be a long 2nd half.
