Remember last year, everyone thought the Eagles would cut Vick as soon as the season was over. And then the Eagles decided to keep him. Conventional wisdom seems to be that Mark is gone after this year. I don't believe that's true. In fact, if Geno doesn't continue to progress or gets worse, I think it'd be a no-brainer to keep Mark around for competition and assurance. The only way I can see Mark NOT staying around is if 1.) Geno has a really good year and (pick any of the following): 2.) We can get trade value from Mark 3.) We need the cap room and Mark refuses to restructure 4.) One of our other veteran QBs steps up and does a better job of his role But if Geno has a bad year, all that goes away. I think Mark sticks around long enough to get some competition in, and probably earns a roster spot.
he's getting cut regardless b/c his salary is too high for a backup. I suppose if he wanted to come back as a backup they'd consider it but he's not coming back.
Barring injury to Geno or him completely shitting the bed the rest of the season (like really bad, not just not being very good) I don't see Sanchez taking another snap in a Jets uniform.
it costs the jets 13 million to keep sanchez, 4 million to cut him. there is nothing that will keep him from getting cut other than him giving up millions and millions of dollars to be a second stringer. and i highly doubt that is going to happen as he i am sure still thinks he is a starting qb.
True. How much money does he get if the cut him before week 1? I could see him staying until then if no one else is the league will give anything for him.
No, he has to be much worse than OK. Sanchez himself is OK at best. Coming off a year with no play time and a shoulder surgery? No thanks. Geno would have to be worse than Sanchez and not by a little before there was a hope in hell of him coming back.
It is NOBODY'S best interest that Sanchez return to the jets, especially Sanchez. He needs to start over with Tampa Bay, Arizona, Buffalo, etc. as a lower-paid backup.
Sanchez will look for an opportunity to start next year, so I doubt he restructures. There's no way we pay out his contract next year. His trade value already sucked, now he's coming off of major injury. He's getting cut after this year.
Sanchez is gone..there are no ifs, buts or maybes about it..he would already be gone if they could have found somebody to take him off their hands, they tried all winter. If Smith doesn't work out they will draft another QB, the upcoming draft will be almost as QB rich as 1983. Hell they may draft another QB anyway but Sanchez won't be coming back.
Yep.. The answer is in the math of the situation. Sanchez should be putting his condo on the market as we post.
At a buck each, he could buy 8.5 million copies and it would get on the Times bestseller list.
No, Matt Simms would be the competition or a draft pick or FA acquisition. If Geno really falters, still super unlikely they would keep Sanchez at his cap number. Remember they were going to release him this year before Garrard retired just before the season started.
My secondary response would be two fold: 1. Why would you want Sanchez to be back 2. At this point how does it look like anything other than Geno will be the guy. People should be uber-excited about Geno. He has already shown quite a bit more talent than Sanchez ever has. He is GONE.
We should trade him to the Giants. If Eli gets hurt Mark can step in and not miss a beat. He would be a good backup for Eli.
